I would appreciate some feedback from those of my classmates who were at today's orientation (I was not, obviously).

Thanks for your comments.

What happened to the supposed shindig?

I didnt really got to meet a lot of new people(t'was so much easier talking to the ones I already know). Then again, I'm sure everyone will know everyone by the end of the semester.

The meeting went by rather fast, which I preferred. There are also a lot of forms due by the next two weeks. I guess I need to update my immunization....

Catspam, are they going to send you the paperwork we received at the meeting? If it wasn't mentioned you might want to call and ask them to because there are some forms due back on 6/23 (the most important is immunizations, others are petty).

School calendar for 2006-2007:

Aug 8........tuition due, optional mini-camp
Aug 9-11...orientation, grand opening, welcome celebrations
Aug 14......classes begin
Oct ?........white coat ceremony
Dec 1-14...finals (will have 2 finals/one per day, then one day off during this
period)

Jan 8........spring semester starts
May 4-16..finals

Days are typically 8-5. We have summers off between p1&2, and p2&3 and start rotations between p3&4.

For financial aid we are classified as graduate level.
Class registrations will be done by the school.

Dress code: business casual every day except Thursdays which is professional dress (having guest speakers).

Health insurance coverage is required (they say even for dependents!).

We should be getting an e-mail within a couple of weeks with the required textbooks, whether health insurance is available thru the HSC, and laptop requirements.

PharmDeb,

Thanks greatly for the detailed information. I'll contact Dr. Robertson next week to ensure I'm up to speed on the immunization requirements. I already got a head start on this at Texas Tech's insistence, so that was one good outcome of interviewing there.

I certainly hope the HSC is going to provide some form of health insurance because I know at my age, private insurance is nearly impossible to get and/or afford.

Other than that, it looks pretty good.

By the way, BRAVO ZULU (well done) on your knowledge of military jargon...even the phonetic alphabet!!! Wow!! I now bestow on you the honorary rank of Lieutenant (Junior Grade). No, I wouldn't expect commissary or PX privileges based on this, but you can print and frame this note and then insist that everyone you know salute you and yell "attention on deck" every time you enter a room. I'll lend you the appropriate badges of rank that you can adorn yourself with them on formal Thursdays.

Shoot, I was hoping for Commander. Oh well, as long as I have access to the officers club.

Good thing JC Penny had a sale 👍

Friends,

Don't be worried about the dress code. The term "business casual" refers (for men) to something like khaki pants (long), polo shirt (pressed) and appropriate footwear. It doesn't mean wearing a tie or long-sleeved business shirt, although that is an option.

Basically, what I think A&M is looking for (MY interpretation) is that you don't come to class looking like a slob.

Look up the term on Google. That's what I did. It'll help clarify the meaning.

it defines exactly what we are and are not suppose to wear on the sheet of paper they gave us at the meeting catspam...however, you do have the right idea. Basically no jeans, tshirts or flipflops which is what composes my wardrobe now. NO JEANS....EVER, WOW!!!!

Not having been at the meeting I wasn't aware that they had passed out a sheet with the specifics. I'll be getting that info in the packet they are sending to all of us who missed the meeting.

Thanks for the feedback.

Good thing my HS required most of the necessary shots, so I only have to get the TB test 😀

Catspam and anyone else who may not have made the pre-orientation meeting-
A list was composed with everyone's name & e-mail address and information is beginning to be exchanged between students through mass e-mails. If you didn't get the list I can PM it to you, just let me know.

Hookemhorns - did you get your immunizations done? What are you having a hard time with? I'm pushing it too. I don't think I will have the verification in the mail until the 23rd. I still need the TB test done, but because I'm a cheapskate I want to go through the TX Dept of Health. That means I'll have to drive to another town tomorrow.

Thanks, Deb. I have complied with your e-mail containing much wisdom.
