we met at uiw! im the one from wichita falls! anyway... the advisors are not here today, but will be tomorrow.
so im calling them around 9 tomorrow morning cuz i desperately need an interview!!!
the lady that i was talking to said that the last interview is this fri. so..

the sad part of this, is that everyone I know personally that interviewed at A&M already got into another school, and they are going somewhere else. that is 3 potential spots. I wonder if they know how many people will decline later and if they took that into account, since they dont have any more interview dates..??

Well, they are interviewing 250 and only accepting 90. I'm sure they'll get enough students. I'm not worried; there is always next year.
Well, my interview is tomorrow... The city doesn't seem as bad as I was expecting. Sure, it's no Dallas or Austin, but I think that the area here beats Amarillo or Abilene.
The building looks great from the outside... I can't wait to see the inside.

I know a few P2 students that are doing a one day a week internship in the valley. For those of you not familiar with the area, the valley is south of Kingsville, with the closest town being Raymondville (a little over an hour drive). I heard that some of the students are having to go all the way to San Antonio. I'm not sure if this will be the same situation for the actual 4th year rotations but I think the school is trying to focus on the southern part of the state so I'm pretty sure that a lot of the rotations will be in the valley. HTH.
I'd be interested to know the answer to the question about rotations. When IPPE's were explained to us a few weeks ago they told us we were lucky that they could fit us all in Houston because in Kingsville they have to drive up to 2-3 hours every Monday to do theirs.

i actually asked this question during my interview; due to the size of the town (~25,000) it is hard to get rotations locally. Most people do them in Houston (if they have family there), San Antonio, "The Valley", and Corpus. The travel is personally funded so in my case, financial aid. I was surprised at this!
one semi-good thing is that since a good amount of faculty practice pharm and they have many friends they are able to set up something that is "Plausible".

I like that A&M tells you the entire point system and that they use it to rank you. I also like that everyone is given exactly 30 minutes for the interview. At the other two schools that I interviewed, it was kind of unfair.
At Tech, my interview was cut 10 minutes short because my interviewers were busy discussing the person before me. Meanwhile, the girl in the room next to me got an *extra* 15 minutes. WTF? UT also sometimes gives people an entire hour instead of 30 minutes, from what I've read.
Tech and UT are also more mysterious about their decision/ranking system.

Yea i agree with you about the point system. I wish other schools would share how they do their thing in selecting students.
As far as interview length... I wouldn't read too much into it. I mean, having a short interview could mean that the interviewer feels as though he/she knows enough about you to make a decision (whether good or bad). On the other hand, a long interview could mean that the interviewer may need more information about you to really get a grasp of your personality and stuff like that. Some of my job interviews have only been 5 mins and in the end I would get the job (maybe 2 or 3 questions max). My interview for Colorado was sorta short because I answered much of the interviewers questions early on in the interview. So I really wouldn't really worry too much about that. But anything goes

Texas Tech has its scoring system in here:

Basically, the scoring system is pretty straight forward. The personal interview takes up 50% of total score, group discussion takes up25%, essay-writing and critical thinking test takes up 12.5% each. Some points will be deducted if you have D or F in your transcript. GPA and PCAT are no longer considered once you get the interview.

Yikes. I'm glad the school I'm applying to doesn't do that. Interview points are added to the point total prior to the interview. I just wish I knew how heavily the interview will be weighted.

does anyone know how a&m calculates gpa? do they average or just take your last grade into consideration?
25% for the group thing? That explains why the two spotlight hogs from my group who wouldn't let others speak were accepted.
It's ok, though. After actually seeing A&M's school, I'd rather go there. The only drawback is that it is far away.

Hmmm. Aren't ECs quantified somehow? Maybe that's the other 25%? As for the interview, I'd say a 15-20% weight is most fair. Not like anyone cares or anything 🙂
EDIT: And what about the personal statement?

Nope, no personal statement. I'd expect that will probably change in the next few years.
I was regret of not going their interview too...but after knowing that students need to drive 2-3 hours to fulfill IPPE requirement EVERY WEEK, I would rather go Tech.😱
Hopefully they have enough options in Corpus Christi because that's only 45 minutes away.

I find it hard to believe that the school in Abilene (city of 100,000 people) can have everything needed while Corpus Christi, Robstown, and Kingsville (300,000 people) would not.

i just talked to my boss who lived like 5 mins away from the campus when he was younger and he said it was 45 mins from corpus
My 45 is to get to the far side, by the big bridge that leads to Portland. It's more like 30 minutes to one of the edges. I'm not going to nitpick over 10 minutes.

yea but first of all its a group trip and second its not every week. so that's whats good. oh and third.. u get to see real dead humans
Yeah, I wouldn't quote me on the IPPE stuff, I'm not sure that our prof wasn't just trying to scare us. I'm sure it's not everyone who has to drive a long distance and I'm sure they don't have to do it all the time. That's why I said I'd like to hear from a Kingsville student to see how true that statement was. Our prof mentioned this after telling us we would probably have a bit of a drive on some days, so I wouldn't worry about it.

If I got into Tech, I wasn't looking forward to two things: Formatting my Vista laptop to reinstall XP and playing with the cadavers. It's really not at all needed for pharmacy which is why very few pharmacy schools still do it.
yea i was thinking along those same lines. maybe abiliene sends their students elsewhere for rotations???? hmmm this is a bit tricky
well u'd be observing rather than playing. we don't get to open stuff up or take stuff out. that fun is left for the med students. i actually don't mind it. at least when i get out.. i'll have a better PICTURE of things lol
