Everyone go check your applicant profile, and then tell me what in the world a TScore is!

Last TScore update: 000000

🙄

Not sure what the TScore is, but mine says "000000" as well. I think that's been there all along, so I'm not too worried about.

I don't think it's been there the whole time, because I don't remember seeing it last week.

It's been there for about a week, but I don't think even the Texas schools know what it means. Their login page hasn't been updated for this change yet.

mine is 072407, think it has to do with my new mcat score. I think that is the date tmdsas sent my score to the schools.

I finally got some LMFU action (7/27) after nothing for three weeks since processing.... thank God, now I just have to see if something comes of it:scared:

Same here. 😀

ay, this LMFU is driving me crazy! i have an LMFU of 7/19, but no love from schools. my LORs were sent in (and recieved), but no LMFU update. oy vey!

okay, no more whining from me.

So now I am totally confused. I retook the MCAT in July. On my status page, where your MCAT score(s) are, it said 072007 and blank for the score. Now it is just totally blank for that score. Did any other retakers have it do this after they finished taking the test?

San Antonio put my totally fluent roommate on the spot to speak spanish and she almost froze! So definitely be ready to converse 🙂 One of my Tech interviewers was a Spanish speaker and apparently really wants people to be able to speak Spanish (totally random pairing because I've never taken Spanish). Those are the only places I had it/heard it brought up at.

Was it the whole interview or just for a while??

The blank is for the date when they receive your test scores for that administration.

so i just got an interview invite from TAMU😀, i'm OOS

what airport do u suggest i fly into?

You should probably fly into easterwood airport (a smaller airport) in college station. Otherwise, you could fly into houston and drive a couple hours to get to college station. Costwise, I don't know if it is cheaper to fly into college station or rent a car.

Sanity-wise, I suggest flying into College Station. Driving that long after a flight makes little sense if you're trying to save cash. There are way too many unforseen problems.

This is my ridiculous interview schedule:

8/8 Texas Tech
8/10 UTMB
8/11 Wedding in Waco
8/13 UTSA
8/16 TAMU

I guess it'll be good to have it all done though.

It's not that bad driving to CS from Houston, it's only 90 miles. If you fly into College station you'll probably be in those little airplanes.

Mine's almost as bad.

8/8 Tech
8/10 UTMB
8/11-8/15 Moving 🙁
8/16 A&M
8/20 UTSA

It's actually a good thing I don't have interviews yet because I'm not back in Texas until August 25th!

oh no, not complaining. Just stressing out a little bit. I guess if I didn't have any interviews I'd be stressing out also so I'll just shutup.😳

Finally got my first LMFU 7/27/07

hope that means something, the A&M invite is getting lonely.

I do wonder who it could be. Maybe UTMB catching up on its backlog?

Just went through the process and am starting next Monday. This time last year I was in your shoes, and I wish someone had told me to ask these questions during interviews (to other students). This will help you later when you decide among offers. Ask the other students (don't ask faculty) how many students in their class are repeating the year and try to find out what the cause was (personal/academic).
Most places will brag about their board pass rate and the other kids will ask how many ppl to a tank but all of that matters little if you're struggling academically during the pre-clinical years. Hope this makes sense.
Ask students what they did last summer. If they did research where did they get published.
Ask them (the students) what paid preceptorship opportunities there are.
Ask how many students regularly attend classes. For the "goers" which class do they skip. There is a tendancy for even "goers" to skip profs that can't teach well. This may be important to you if you consider yourself a "goer" and learn from lectures.
I'll write more when I get some more time. When you go to the interviews and see students there stop and say hi if you have a moment. We'd be glad to chat with you.

Good Luck Texas! :luck:

so did everyone's LMFU change to 7/27/07 because of the Tscore thing? or is it totally unrelated.

My LMFU has only changed twice from 6/11 to 7/13 to 7/27. I've had my LORs in before the 13th so I hope it has to do with interview invites.

TScore thing has been there since last week. And it's nothing related to our side of the application. I've had all my stuff in (LORs and MCAT) since before it was sent out to schools. I really am thinking it's an invite but I know it's not UTH or UTSW (they start looking at apps Aug 1st). All other schools have already started giving them out so it's a real mystery.

It's not that bad driving to CS from Houston, it's only 90 miles. If you fly into College station you'll probably be in those little airplanes.

CS to the outskirts of northwest Houston is 90 miles. From CS to my place right by the med center is 2 hours no traffic. It isn't a bad drive, but in a long interview day, it can make it very long. TAMU starts early too.

I think to decide where to fly into, you need to look at cost of renting a car and cost of flying into Easterwood.

For your TAMU interview, you'll not only drive from whichever airport you fly into, you'll also have to drive to Temple and back to CS. It is only about and hour and a half to Temple from CS.

Also, check flight schedules to make sure if you choose to fly into CS you'll be on time everywhere else. You will fly through Houston and into CS on a tiny plane, but it isn't bad. It can be worth the trouble with all the driving overall.

In the personal statement for TMDSAS, it says to discuss your philosophy of the medical profession and your goals relevant. How did you discuss this, I have it written out but I don't know if this is what they really want to know. I think I might have got into too much detail, what did you guys do??

I used anecdotes to segway into explaining each of my points so I don't seem too dry. It forces you to write a semi-structured PS that you can easily reuse for AMCAS.

See and I was told by one of my mentors, a UT-H doc, not to do storytelling. Everyone does it and most stories are made up, plus reading stories gets boring really fast for the PS readers. Discuss more philosophy but I'm so consfused on what to include and what not to include. Can someone give an example of how they incorporated their discussion of the medical career so that I can understand this request better...

Yeah, I've had an adcom at a certain school (not in Texas) take a look at it and said it was fine but I guess everyone has their style. I had my writing center take a look at it and my anecdotes literally are no longer than 2 sentences (there was some concern about whether they were too long).

Best of luck to you though!

For those of you that have interviewed in SA, I'm wondering if it would be easy for me to fly in and then find transportation to the school, to my student host's, etc. Anyone have any experience with that?

I'm driving down there for a wedding the week before my interview and don't want to do the drive twice and by myself for the interview. I've found a flight out of Love Field for $112 and just really want to do it to save time, inconvenience of driving. Plus, if I stay with a student host, the cost won't be that much more.

I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!!

Merissa, I've had many positive comments on my PS (I used almost the same one for both last year and this year's cycle). If you would like to read it, to give you an example, please let me know! I'll PM it your way. 😉

I was told just the opposite from an UTH adcom. She said that she gets really bored with ps's that arent very personalized. Anyone can write philosophy but only you can write about your unique experiences. plus your own experiences are most likely what you feel most comfortable with and this will come across in your essay. definitly have some philosophy but I agree that there should be antedotal segways

This might not be related, but the docs I've talked to have absolutely no idea how the admissions process works these days. They're all "just take the MCAT and get good grades and everything will be fine." 🙄

Mhmm. It must have been SO much easier for them. An ER & radiologist I shadowed said the same thing!

I am new to posting, but have been reading many of the threads trying to figure out all of this med school madness. My husband is applying through TMDSAS for 2008. He took his MCAT in May and received a 27L: 10PS, 6VR, 11BS. He is retaking on Aug 6th, so his results are to be back Sept 5th. He has completed his application, but has not sent out or requested any seondaries. He has received one interview to UTMB. My question is.. because he is retaking to improve his MCAT scores, should he send out the secondaries and do the Texas med schools review applications twice? He did put on his application that he was retaking. PLEASE HELP! 😳

Schools will theoretically not make a final decision until they see the new MCAT score. They might reject him if he already has what they consider a disqualifying factor.

If UTMB gave him an invite, then take that as evidence that he is a very strong applicant despite the 6 VR. If he can improve that score at his next sitting, then he should be in good shape.

As a side note, all Texas secondaries are available right now to fill out online.

So, I talked to this girl today who said UTH and Baylor already sent out interview invites. I think she was a re-applicant, but I was like what?? I didn't even think they started lookin at our apps until august 1st (for UT-H)..i dont know about baylor.

Do you guys think she was straight up lyin or she really did hear bak?

I don't know about everyone else, but that doesn't sound accurate at all to me. If I remember correctly, I thought Baylor doesn't interview people until September?

UTH? 😵

Baylor? Maybe if their EDP... but seriously! Although, Baylor certainly has started reviewing applications.

Even then EDP gets the earlier spots from what I remember.

Hey guys, i was just letting those of you with tech interviews know that i called lubbock inn today to book a room and they gave me $10 off the quoted price that tech gave for hotel recommendations. Apparently $59 is the going rate right now so if you tell them you're there for a med interview they will make it $49. It's a pretty nice place, if i remember correctly, and right down the road from the school...well, everything is sort of right down the road in lubbock.
