I love how schools will cash your checks before they even register that they have received your secondary/certification/check. That really just doesn't make any sense.

By the way, for those who have completed their apps, about how long did the transfer of letters from TMDSAS to the individual schools take? There is nothing more frustrating than having everything done except for what you have no control over....

I'm still waiting for my app to be processed. 2 weeks and still nothing. Arg.

I have a question for all of the minority students that have gotten interviews. Have your interviews been coming from minority affairs, because mine have.

Yeah...but imagine how much of a nightmare for them it would be if they didn't have that policy. 😀Sure...I'll pay you later.

I am starting to lose hope for UTMB and SA 🙁

You should chill out a little. SA just sent out their first round of interviews. 🙄

I can't comment about UTMB because they seem to be ignoring me too.

Seriously guys....you have to remember that they can ONLY interview a certain number of people at a time! Which isn't more than like 50-60 an interview date, if that many. So chill....PLEASE.

EDIT: besides...the one who should be worrying more is me and other reapps! ha.

well we should have been invited first!!

damn Texas for luring us in with their low tuition and then crushing our spirits.

Got my new MCAT score went up 4 pts.!! (33)

Now I'm ready for some interviews!!!

i need some honest advice from my fellow Texans.

just got my mcat score today, PS: 9 V: 7 BS: 10. This was a one point improvement from my first mcat. 🙁
I have 3.5 overall and my apps are already sent to the texas schools.
heavy ec's and great lor. published research during undergrade, emt certified and currently do research at utsw. i feel like all of this is worthless because of my crap mcat score.

what should i do? sorry if this post is annoying, but i would be very grateful for any advice on what i should do. 🙁:scared:😕

Definitely possible. I remember at my UTHSCSA interview last year they mentioned that they separated us into groups 1,2,3, etc as to how much they wanted to interview you. So I'm sure other schools work the same way in that they'll interview some first off and work there way thru. 😉 Like I keep saying, stop worrying it's WAY to frackin early! (yes I said frackin 😀, too bad BSG only has one more season! 🙁)

By separating into "groups" do you mean by date of interview---first set on date x, second set on date y, etc??

Hey mate. I'm right there with you on this. My MCAT showed a meager 2 point improvement to a 27T this year. I won't lie, it will be tough on the allopathic route, but if you've already submitted let it ride. You really never know what could happen. Good luck to you.

Yes, they specifically told my "group" that we were assigned "1"s...meaning they wanted to interview us the most (and I would assume earliest as well).

Hmm... interesting. Especially considering there were already 900 apps sent out when I checked 2 weeks ago, that means they must have glossed over a lot of people?

I wonder where I might rank on these lists... maybe a 4. It seems like i haven't done a lot in my short time period here on earth. 😛

That definitely makes me feel better. So its quite possible that instead of completely passing me up, they've put me in group 2, 3 or 4 and may invite me later.

My cousin goes to UTSA, and he mentioned that he applied early, but was interviewed later in November. So I guess they don't just burn through the apps never to return again.

Good news...

Sounds kind of harsh though.

That is encouraging to hear. I'll keep waiting by my mailbox for UTSA. haha

Still, it's a little bit discouraging to think that those of us who end up being ranked as a 3 or 4 would have to work harder since we are less "appealing" so to speak haha.

With great EC's and research, I think you still have a great chance to get in somewhere! I think average accepted MCAT is about a 29 in TX, so for every 32 they also accept a 26. Good Luck!

i graduated with a degree in neuroscience with a 3.5 overall, and a 3.5 science as well. i got a 28 R (P10, V9, B9)... i took the mcat last august and got a 24P on it, but i had alarms go off during my verbal, hence my verbal score was really really low that time (6)... aamc wrote me a letter apologizing for the "testing irregularity"

I'm submitting my texas app on friday... do i need to re-take the mcat?? any advice would be muchhh appreciated. im afraid to take it a 3rd time..

I dont want to burst anyones bubble here but i interviewed last cycle at uthscsa and the dean told my group that all of the interview invites that year were considered 1's...........the interview was NOV 28!!!!!!!!!so i wouldnt get hung up on when your interview is just make the most of it when you get there considering that a number of those who interviewed with me were accepted. also, alot of pple in that group had 30+MCAT,EC's,etc and they were interiewing late......

Ah wells...just goes to show you how effed up last year was. I really hope the schools have figured stuff out...last year was a mess for a lot of us. 🙁 I really should try staying off SDN, only makes ya feel worse! lol

Did those people submit their apps and everything early though?

UTSA (The University of Texas at San Antonio) does not equal UTHSCSA (The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio).

Kind of like Baylor University does not equal Baylor College of Medicine (anymore at least).

On the UTHSCSA invites, mine was around the end of November last year, and I applied the day of the TMDSAS deadline, and was accepted, so have faith.

Applying early certainly helps (*read* apply friggin' early), but applying late is not necessarily an immediate disqualification (and by late I mean October 1).

Please do not wait until then though.......

Same with A&M, BUT it's a pain in the ass to type UTHSCSA vs UTSA. Most of us know we aren't talking about the fabled Roadrunners. It always cracked me up that students from the medical programs in San Antonio feel the need to pronounce the abbreviation (i.e. YOO-TEH'-SKUH). Not a bad thing, I just think it's funny. I tried to to it when I was at UTMB, but it never caught on.

All of the actual med students I spoke with when visiting UTHSCSA said they all refer to it as "Yoo-Tee-Hes-Ka"

Unfortunately, I bought my plane ticket without knowing that. So, uhh, I'll take it easy. 😀

Hi again. So did you interview early last year??? That's nerve-racking to think that students are ranked in order of preference to be interviewed. 😱 I thought that people were selected as the apps come in and if not selected immediately, then possibly selected later depending on other applicants and how they fare amidst the next group, and so on?? 😕

anyone know what the utmb interview will be like? group interview or individually?

My app wasn't processed until late August (were talking 28th or 29th here). I still got interviews at all four UT schools...which all went GREAT. Despite that, here I am...trying again. Bleh.

And yes...realistically most of them aren't going to just throw your application out of the window immediately. I didn't receive my UTSW interview invite until late October...long after my other 3 invites! Which makes total sense to me...I was extremely suprised to have even gotten an interview at UTSW (they're very numbers based), not to mention their waitlist!! 😀 So just because you don't hear something right off the bat, there's still plenty of hope.

I hadn't thought about the social thing. Maybe...depending on when I get down to Galveston? Has anyone been before, and is it fun?

2 individual interviews: approx. 30 minutes each but mine ran much longer 😉 Don't stress, the interviews are fun!!! The first one might seem nerve racking but they get wayyyy easier with time.

Lol, I feel like I'm answering everything! 😉 It's a blast...actually all of the socials usually are. Everyone is always super-nice and excited to see you, after-all you could be their next student! 😛

Every school has "internal" cutoffs for a highly likely interview once your application has been received. UTSW is pretty high at 3.6/31 and that if you are higher than that, they don't stick you in a separate "we'll wait and see" pile. Now, of course, there are people who are interviewed early with much lower stats but I don't know what criteria they use for those applicants. All I know is what I asked about getting a response to my "typical" application in a hypothetical sense.

By the way, for those targeting UT Southwestern, they won't start looking at our apps until August so a little fairy in the admissions office told me. 😀

I got an email a couple of days ago, as I sure many of you have from UTSW.

"Your application to the medical school entering class of 2008 was received fromthe Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service on July 13, 2007. Thank you for your interest in UT Southwestern Medical School.

The application review process has begun. It is difficult to anticipate whenyou might hear from us regarding the status of your application. If you are selected for an interview, we will contact you via email at the same email address to which this message was sent. Any changes to your email address should be forwarded to TMDSAS and UT Southwestern as soon as possible.
"

I guess inside sources are better, but there really isn't any reason for them to just say this if it's not true.

What schools do yall know that give out interviews without lor's, cause the waiting on TMDSAS to send those letters is killing me....

I called UTMB several weeks back and they said that they don't wait on evaluation letters. I'm hoping thats still true, but I'm getting stressed because i was processed 6/20, with a 3.76 BCPM and a 31T and I've yet to hear.

The info is about 2 months old, but after reading the e-mail I got again, I think they might start reviewing in July but we won't hear back a response until August.

Same here: processed 6/20, 3.39 and 38O, and nothing yet from San An or UTMB... Its pretty stressful

yeah justmoi, im in the same boat with you cause we have really similar scores. I was hoping that utmb would invite me on tues, im pretty confident that they meet on mondays and only offer invites on tuesdays, so lets keep our fingers crossed for next tues...:luck::banana::luck::banana::luck::banana:
