Good to hear from you! 🙂 From what weve heard, it doesn't sound like UTSW and UTH have even started reviewing applications yet...so hold tight. 😀 And yes, it's terribly nerve racking, especially for those of us that got stuck with a "do-over" 😳 Don't worry, just make the best out of it. If your spot is out there, you'll get it. For some it just takes longer than others...😉 But hey, we'll all end up great docs someday...make sure you send your kids to me! Haha. 👍

Yes, I wasn't processed/sent to schools until August 28th I believe. To me, I thought I was "early"...I had had two friends the year before who submitted on the deadline in October and had no problem being accepted. (my stats were very similar to theres) Little did I know how much of a fiasco the new prematch system would become...👎 I won't lie, I'm not terribly happy that they didn't change it this year...last year screwed a lot of really good applicants that I know. Hence why I'm applying OOS!

Average MCAT for Texas schools is 28.9 for 2006 (last year the have on file). However, expect higher numbers for more desirable schools.

Also, with Texas' strict OOS cap, they'll only interview if they like you. Less of a chance to waste your money.

You could 75 to Waco and then jump on 6. Or you can take I-20 to I-35 E and take that down to Waco and then take 6 (this probably quickest). I would stear clear of I-45

Because this is Texas we are talking about, unless you want to be interviewed in Spanish, don't overemphasize it. Other than that, go ahead because it's an excellent skill to have. I'm thinking on brushing up on my high school Spanish when I have some free time. *like now!*

Well I definitely mentioned it in my essays. I talked about how I translated for doctors and nurses sometimes whenver patients couldn't speak any english and they couldn't speak any spanish. I didn't claim to be fluent but I guess I should start practicing with my parents and friends from back home. 😀

I'm a spanish speaker but not completely fluent. I mean, things that would be discussed in an interview are not necessarily things I have discussed in Spanish before. (Obviously, I'm going to practice anyways) I'm expecting San Antonio to be in Spanish but I'm not sure of the others. (So far I've got interviews to Tech, UTMB, A&M, and San Antonio) Anyone?

San Antonio put my totally fluent roommate on the spot to speak spanish and she almost froze! So definitely be ready to converse 🙂 One of my Tech interviewers was a Spanish speaker and apparently really wants people to be able to speak Spanish (totally random pairing because I've never taken Spanish). Those are the only places I had it/heard it brought up at.
