Ok so is there anyone out there that had an LMFU of 7/19 and has NOT recieved a letter from UTHSCSA besides me?? Because I feel fairly certain that particular date for LMFU is corelated to the SA invite...

What's LMFU?

LMFU = Last Master File Update. Many speculate as to its significance, but no one truly knows IMHO. Some think it changes when you get an interview or acceptance. A lot is made of it during the cycle so you'll get your fill in the coming months. Mine hasn't been changed since 6/15 and I've had one interview at TCOM. I think my application is starting to collect dust.

I have no idea why you haven't gotten an interview. There are several reasons that may or may not have anything to do with your application. I wouldn't take it personally until MUCH later.

I wouldn't worry about UTMB yet...there's still plenty of time left for invites. I'm trying not to get hell-bent over it right now myself.

LMFU = last master file update. It can be found on your profile page at TMDSAS. Us neurotic premeds seem to think that when the date changes it'll bring us good news...it's probably just a load of crap really. 😉 Try not to get too caught up in that either..for you're own good.

No, they keep applications around to compare them to what comes later...and I bet UTMB is doing this considering the fiasco that happened last year with people who applied later that weren't accepted anywhere.

I wouldn't bother then this early in the game. There is little reason to. they are getting 250 applications each week, so they have a lot of them to sort through.

Seriously, though, it never hurts to ask. In my experience admissions offices are real nice about these things. If something happened after you submitted that you feel makes you a better applicant, write them a letter of update.

Don't freak out. If you are concerned don't be scared to call the admissions office. I am sure you are not the first person to do this. Your MCAT scores look really great and I am not sure what the avg. MCAT is now but when i applied it think the avg for accepted applicants was 27-28, but that was in 2004 and we didn't have rolling admission. However, things could have changed, so maybe you can look through our website or call. Did you apply to all the schools in Texas?

Dude, that kind of persistence is what gets you in. Make sure you remember the name of your interviewer and send them a thank you e-mail ASAP. 😀

Just don't share the secret though! We wouldn't want to ruin it for everyone.

I was told by someone who works at UTMB that they put apps on hold till they get your new mcat score. If you took the june 15 test they probably haven't looked at your app with the new score yet.

I've heard UTMB finally shows some courtesy around match day (feb 15th).

Last year I applied to UTHSCSA, didn't hear word one from them until February 1, when I received a letter which was dated DECEMBER 22, 2006. Not only do they wait until all interviews are over to reject you, they wait another 5 weeks to mail the letter. How kind of them. At least this year I have an interview.

Someone I know who was retaking the MCAT on June 15th like me got his interview invite to UTMB before he even found out his second score. His first cumulative score was the same as mine, but I'm thinking his distribution may have been better, don't know for sure (I got a 7 in verbal the first time) or he must have had great essays, although I didn't think mine were terrible.

No one at this point has been rejected by any school. Your stats are good enough for interviews at every medical school in Texas. Just be patient. One of the worst things you can do right now is read SDN. As the old saying goes, "the watched pot never boils". Stay off SDN for a week and you'll get an interview.
As for calling the schools, don't ask if your app has been read by their committees. That's kinda like asking "well, are you gonna interview me or not?" That's a bit forceful. I wouldn't do a thing. Stop worrying!!!

UTMB should be giving out some invites tomorrow if they stick with the same scheduling as before. That might explain the 7/27 LFMU.

Baylor
Southwestern
UTHSCSA
Houston
Galveston
A&M
Tech

He felt Houston and Galveston were about the same and Tech and A&M the lowest because they are the newest. Granted, he went to med school 15 years ago and said the order easily could have changed. I'm under the impression that Houston is now #3 and Galveston #4. Anyone have a better understanding?

I think it depends upon your priorities. If it's research - Southwestern etc...I know US News does a yearly report ranking all grad schools. That might be your best chance at finding an "objective" listing. They did it while I was in PT school and I remember laughing at the list. Washington U. was at the top of the list which was a total no-brainer, but beyond that it looked like they were just drawing straws. There's probably some logic to the lists, but it fails me.

Just remember, Tech and A&M are the best schools in Texas if those are your options! That's really hard for me to say having graduated from UT. Few people care where you went to school beyond your residency.

I'm confused about where San Antonio, Houston, and Galveston fit. Everything else is.... well, I don't want to be the one who lights that fire and starts a flame war.

Cuz Houston - amazing medical center.
UTMB - You can spend your last two years in Austin. Awesome.

So that's my take, but of course the reasons really have nothing to do with the medical schools themselves. I think it's really a personal thing.

Did you use the same essay for the secondaries?

A&M's - 2. Highlight briefly your personal characteristics and experiences that are consistent with choice of interest(s) as shown above.

SW- In the text box provided below, describe the setting in which you envision conducting your medical career. Also include how and why you think this setting would help fulfill your interests related to the practice of medicine.

Not even close. For the A&M question, I did something like... Primary care - short paragraph, Academic medicine - short paragraph , etc. UTSW's was more like a short essay for me...in was probably a little more personal/in depth.

Holy crap! Just got my A&M invite! I am freakin' stoked. Looks like I'm scheduled for the 30th but I have the option of scheduling an earlier interview. I wonder if it is advisable to schedule earlier if I can make it or keep it for the 30th? Thanks.
