ummmm.... so i got an email invite for A&M today (yay!) but I think I might have messed up my confirmation. It said i could confirm for aug 30th or reschedule for a different date... I tried to reschedule for aug 23, just because it would be more convienent to go before classes start... I recieved an email that my aug 30 date is cancelled and their office will be incontact soon...but then i got to thinking that the the aug 23 date is most likely already full and I may have just postponed my interview even farther into the school year... has anyone done anything similar? were there still openings in dates before the one you were officially scheduled for?? thanks!

as far as I know they hardly ever let you reschedule to an earlier date. I'm sure it won't be a problem to get Aug 30 back if that's the case, though.

Not correct in my experience. I got an interview invite from A&M last week for 8/23 and rescheduled it for 8/16. It was easy as pie and the office ladies were super nice.

Perhaps you marked a class wrong? They don't proof your transcript grades until you're validated and that doesn't happen until you've been accepted usually.

I just checked, and everything is in right. I wonder maybe they use a different formula to calculate gpa? To other reapplicants: is your gpa the same as it was on last year's app?

I did that yesterday - they sent me an invite for the 9th (of August!) and I "declined" it and tried to reschedule for the 2nd. They emailed my back and said nothing was available (except the 9th) until the 23rd. Sooo...as of yesterday there was space available on the 23rd and the 30th.

My science gpa went down a tenth of a point this cycle. I emailed tmdsas a while back and they said they messed up last year by not including some of my junior college grades as science courses. Sucks but I guess its not that rare.

Interviews of course. LORs may help though. I know A&M emailed one of my professors and thanked them for the evaluation. It may actually be holding you up a bit... That's complete crap.

The letter that I received today says that you must provide your own transportation...I'm going to be driving a lot that weekend with my UTHSCSA interview on the Monday following. 😀
 
I'll be hoteling it a the Super 8 the night before (8/29). I think I'll stop by the Chicken with my UT national champs shirt on.:meanie: If it works out, I don't mind driving some folks to Temple provided you aren't an axe murderer and don't like country music.😀

Incidentally - careful as you drive through Mansfield to or from Ft. Worth. Got popped for a ticket on my way home. The cop was nice though. I was doing 80 in a 55 and he reduced it to 75 in a 55. Man 55 feels like driving in a school zone these days.

Wow, that's really a bad idea. Couldn't they just have us watch a thirty minute video on Scott and White? It'd save a lot of gas. I'm not complaining, I'm still very excited. I just think it's a poor decision on A&Ms part.

My LMFU is 7-20-07. I received an invite yesterday. I truly do not believe there is a correlation. I think, statistically, the P value would be close to 1. We're all scientists here. Don't believe the LMFU hype.

You got waitlisted last year and still no invite? What gives is probably quite simple. UTMB has a score-based interview system (gpa*10 + MCAT = interview). Right now, UTMB has plenty of candidates with really remarkable scores. They are really the exception and soon UTMB will start interviewing "lower" scores. Don't worry, the early interviewers have no better chance of acceptance than those interviewing in September and October. The interview is really were the final decision is made. That's just my opinion.

Is this score-based system proven? Taking a look at the people who already gotten an interview, DianaUT06 would have gotten one already. Unless they only take the top 60 out of 250 from each new week of submissions.

Well, each school may do things a bit differently. For instance, instead of multiplying gpa by 10 they could do it by 10.1. This is purely speculation, but it shows how easy it would be for a school that's more interested in gpa to adjust the formula. It probably is more complex than this when you consider race and ethnicity. Even so, I think personal statements, ECs, and LORs probably don't effect interview chances (minus that not having LORs causes your file to incomplete).
 
For those that have gotten an A&M invite. When you clicked the RSVP link to confirm your interview, was all that you got just a thank you notice for RSVPing? I know the email said that they will be mailing more info, but I still havent gotten anything.
 
DianaUT, Im sure what is going on is that since you are still on the waitlist (assumption) they cannot give you an interview. Isn't that essentially saying that you are no longer on the waitlist, hold out and Im sure you are getting one as soon as classes start or you are pulled off the list. Good luck, your scores are similar to mine and I have one there.

What you said makes a lot of sense. According to the list on the last page, most of those invited to UTMB have pretty stellar numbers. They'll have to invite people with lower numbers later on (and accept a good number of them) to get the class profile that they ended up with.
 
Thanks everyone for the encouragement!! AdamMD, I agree with your idea that they are assigning interviews based on highest priority scores right now. I've heard this concept from many schools, so it makes sense. However, zakp, if you look back in this thread you will notice at least 2 people who got interviews at UTMB and were ALSO on the waitlist. One of them was accepted like last week. That's where my concern is...😕

Yes...I've heard crazy stories of people being accepted the day of orientation because someone didn't show. 🙄 And for UTMB, the first day of orientation isn't until August 20th, so I have a while. They don't want me anyway though, I feel pretty convinced.
 
I'm trying to find out about UTMB's curriculum in preparation for my interview. I called to ask for a viewbook. They directed me to their website, but none of the links on the curriculum page are working! Has anyone been able to find a working site with info about their curriculum?

They'll go over the curriculum in the presentation before any of your interviews 😉 But the links seem to work fine for me...try again?
 
I'm not sure about the best-candidates-getting-interviewed-early theory. While I think I've got great experiences and LOR's, my MCAT/GPA is nothing but average. There must be more to it than a simple screening process. I went into this process uncertain if I'd even get a sniff from some of these schools.

Considering they would have roughly 2 or so days to look through 250 apps, I think it's a computerized system initially screening, then adcom members finalize a list of people to invite.

Heck, UTMB even says they give an applicant an interview by using the Student Information System. If that doesn't scream "computer", I don't know what does!

For some reason, most of UTMBs website is set up so that you can only see it on the UTMB campus. So the links for current students -- you actually have to be a current student to see. However, there are some ways around it...

About those saying early interviews are no different from interviews later on in the cycle, that is incorrect... which I am sure many reapps can explain. Early interviews give you a much, much better shot at being accepted. They do not wait to see all the applicants before making their decisions. Numbers definitely aren't everything though, and the interview can definitely break you.

I got an interview invite yesterday and I'm wondering the best way to get myself from Austin to Galveston for it. Hotels are a pain. Flying is a pain. Having no car is REAL pain. I know there must be others suffering like me. Any idea on what they do for people in my situation?

There's always the last resort of paying a taxi to take me there from the airport but with gas prices so high, the tab for that ride will be INSANE. Oy.

There will be a paper in the envelope you get from them with info about the Galveston Limo Service - www.galvestonlimo.com - which can provide transportation from the airport.
 
Just out of curiosity I was looking through last year's invite thread - UT-Houston started sending out invites around the 11th of July last year for the 4th of August, and even UTSW sent them out around the 19th of July.

Anyone know why they are so much later this year? More torture for us?

They are adjusting because of last year's fiasco with the match. Schools gave out way too many offers and people latched onto them like no tomorrow. Initially they designed the system thinking that people who got an acceptance to their top school would drop all others but because of very little waitlist movement, it was as slow as molasses.

I hear that UTH and UTSW are changing it up this year to be a bit more conservative with when they hand out interviews and offers. Last year was a guinea pig year (first time they did pre-match stuff), so hopefully they learned from their mistakes.
