Anyone have any sense of what the current job market is like in Texas, particularly in the big cities? Saturation, ease of finding desirable positions, salary, etc info would be greatly appreciated.
It's tough to get a position straight off in the medical center unless you're willing to do academics.
Hah! While it's true both UT and Baylor are expanding their faculty, it's only the best, of course. 😎
My experience when looking / calling / interviewing recently far has been:
-Austin (and everywhere commutable from Austin) is Saturated, don't even try
-Everywhere else is hiring.
Offers I've personally seen / discussed so far:
RVUs $140/hr employee, + Benefits
Salary $265k/yr employee, + Benefits
Salary $285k/yr employee, + Benefits
Hourly $170/hr Salary, + Benefits
RVUs Employee, range 160-225, avg 190/hr, + benefits
RVUs IC, range 170-300, avg 230/hr
Most of these places have scribes and EMR, ranges from 1.6 pph up to 3.7 pph with your own personal PA. Malpractice is included in all those numbers. Benefits generally include Health, Dental, and 401K Matching. They usually say that the benefits account for about $25/hr, but I've found it to be more like $20/hr when I do the math. Then there's taxes and group discounts and stuff.
It's all Apples to Oranges to Pears out there, it's hard to make head from tails sometimes.
These numbers seem a bit low for Texas, no?

All I know is where I've interviewed, I've been mainly sticking to SA and Austin, and in between. I have a friend up in Dallas who's getting like $200/hr + Benefits, and another that getting like $235/hr all IC based. Kinda matches up with what I quoted above, but who knows...
What are the ER job prospects for someone who has completed 1 year of internal medicine internship, 1 year of radiology residency, 3 years of family medicine + ALSO, PALS, ACLS, NRP, ATLS certs?

But he's got the merit badges that so many of our hospital CEOs think we should have...5 years of training in other fields does not an emergency physician make...

You left out "as good as the nurses who teach it"It's important to be as competent as an about to start residency med student at resuscitation. Fortunately I have multiple pieces of paper that attest to that. And even better, I get to pay for new pieces of paper every 2-5 years so that the papers stay legible.
Just to be clear, do the benefits come out of the salary/ hourly wage, or is it in addition to it?My experience when looking / calling / interviewing recently far has been:
