Hey everyone I took my PCAT today and was a little disappointed with my scores. I can't seem to find any minimum requirements for individual PCAT sections on any of the Texas schools' sites. Are there any? I only seem minimum composite scores. Do they look at individual scores?

Anyway, here's my scores
Bio: 440 (94%)
Chem: 449 (96%)
Reading: 392 (46%)
Math: 396 (41%)

Composite: 420 (81%)

I was a bit shocked at my reading score as I normally only missed around 8 on all my timed practice tests. Math was expected since I ran out of time and stupidly left several blank. Now I'm worried that even with a decent composite those individuals scores will hurt my chances.

I was wanting to apply early decision to UH, but now I'm starting to think that may be a reach. Anyone from the previous class care to share their thoughts on this? Would I just be wasting my time?

I guess this turned into more of a "what are my chances" thread so I guess I'm wondering if I have a shot at any of the Texas pharmacy schools like TAMUK, UH, or UNT.

Rest of my stats:
cGPA: 3.49
sGPA: 3.40
Already have my BS degree
Volunteer: Around 900 hours from all of undergrad from various organizations (a little time here and there every week really added up)
Experience: Only recently started working as a pharm tech so not much more than 20ish hours here.

I don't know anything about Texas schools, but I wish I had your PCAT score

Well thanks! I'm just really hoping that my low individual scores won't have a huge impact on my application.

You'll be fine. 70 and higher is seen as competitive.

I know this doesn't relate to pharmacy, but I once shadowed a dentist who served in the admission committee when she was attending the school. She told me all they looked at were GPA and DAT score. If they were high enough, then they will look at other stuff. I guess it might be the same for pharmacy schools. I mean who has the time to look at each individual score when they have hundreds applications, maybe up to a thousand? to view. But she went to Columbia, so maybe those prestige schools care most about high grades.

You remind me of my friend, she once stressed out about getting a B in a Bio course because she thought that PA schools were going to look at each individual grade. Like seriously? 😵

Hey, I'm trying to apply to UH too!! I read on the website that they want each individual score to be at least 75%, but they do also say that they want the overall score to be at least a 75% as well, so take that as you will. It also doesn't hurt to email an advisor and ask more specific questions either. I wish you the best of luck!
