Texas Tech University - El Paso (TTUHSC-El Paso) Class of 2025 Interview/Acceptance Thread

In case you were wondering, I have a 4.0 gpa, 26 AA, I’m a SHPEP alumnus, I have maybe about 500 volunteering hours in 2 different volunteering settings (a daycare and an underserved high school). I also have led a small digital marketing agency (managing Facebook ad campaigns for local businesses) as well as running a small team with a website making science videos to help high school students in AP classes. The dentist who wrote my rec letter is very experienced (about 30 years teaching and practicing dentistry) and said my personal statement was “one of the best she’s ever read”. I think my rec letters from professors were fairly decent too. But who knows! I only have 70 shadowing hours. I also submitted my app in late September and took the DAT very late in November and scored a 18 on the PAT. I came across dentistry pretty late in the game. I didn’t even join a predent org until last semester. I haven’t received interview invites from San Antonio or Dallas. I have no idea what these admissions committees are looking for. Maybe I sold myself way too much. Maybe they just assume I’m going to get picked up somewhere else so they don’t even bother looking at my app. Maybe my essays aren’t even that good in retrospect. Maybe my professor wrote something negative intentionally in my rec letter. Maybe I interview way worse than I think. Maybe taking the DAT that late is just a death sentence regardless of what the rest of my application has. Maybe maybe maybe. I have NO idea. But that’s okay. I think it’s better to view this whole process more as a matching system to make sure we are good fits rather than a competition. We are obviously all good enough to be accepted into dental school in our own ways. Let’s just trust them to do their thing rather than try to justify why (or why not) we get interviewed/accepted. Because tbh no one really knows exactly what they’re thinking or exactly what they’re looking for in applicants except them!
Oct 31st is the last date for TMDSAS completed application. If you took DAT in Nov, you will be late for year’s application cycle.

with those stats, you will be 1st in line next year. Wish you the best !!!

October 30th was the deadline for this year to submit an application without supporting documents. November 15 was the deadline to post-mark recommendation letters. Dec 1st was the deadline to take the DAT (source: Deadlines & Important Dates).

I got my application with my rec letters submitted in September but I just didn't have enough confidence to take the DAT earlier, so I registered for a very late date. I scored very well but perhaps I should have taken it sooner and been more confident in myself. But this is all hindsight bias I guess.

If I was too late I wouldn't have gotten interviewed and accepted here. I just barely squeezed through. 😆

But you're right, if I had submitted everything earlier I would have been first in line. For anyone reading this thread, don't do what I did lol. Get the DAT and your application out of the way before doing anything else. Applying early makes a huge difference.

Thanks for the updates y’all! It’s been so quiet

I just withdrew my acceptance, hope one of you guys get my spot.

yeah same. do you know how many people they have one their waitlist or any details about it besides what they sent in the email?
No i dont. I believe the only way we can get off the waitlist is someone drops their spot out of the 40 students.. probably unlikely

Where did you see that someone left? Just wondering if I am missing something haha. For me, it still shows the same amount of people
For the past week there has been 42 members in the group, but yesterday evening there were 43 members, someone recently joined. Today we are back at 42. On my phone it says 43, but once I go to group details it shows the accurate number of members. Hope this helps lol.

Does anyone think that we are going to get full rides for being in the inaugural class? I believe PLFSOM gave 20 of their 40 inaugural students full rides. Wondering if anyone has any insight for the inaugural dental school class...

Truthfully, I don't think we are. I believe 3-5 people might've been offered a scholarship when they were accepted.

How do you know that? I thought no one knew about scholarship money until they send the award letter.
Hey I know I'm really late to this but before I turned down my acceptance I was offered $32k ($8k per year). Hope that helps.
