So, I am an MS1 attending a program in which we don't have required textbooks.
We do have an extensive list of recommended online resources, test prep books, and some e-textbooks, but I have always been a pen and paper kind of person, and I want to buy a select few hard copy textbooks. What textbooks do you guys recommend? Again, I only want to buy a few that will be truly useful, since the books are pricey.

Wait before you buy anything. Most classes have... "something" that they will share with you soon.

One of the attendings I was talking to today mentioned this book! Definitely getting it then, when it has such rave reviews.

My school's got a funky self-guided curriculum. So like there really is nothing we have been instructed to buy; we are told to find the resources that will be most helpful to us.

So I definitely wanted to buy an anatomy book because that seemed worth my money, but I can't tell if any other books would be useful.
it depends on your institution to be honest. Some schools give handouts that contain all the information you need. The problem with medical school is you are forced to memorize minutiae. Looking at a book you would have no idea what minutiae to remember, so it becomes useless. People use outside videos for understanding and school given material for memorization. Big robbins , and costanzo for physiology also seem to be common reccomendations, But honestly it really comes down to your school and the type of exams they will have.
