What exactly do I have to do to make sure I get reimbursed from the Army for textbooks?

I'll be starting 1st year, and since I haven't started classes yet I don't have access to the CDW, so I can't see what all that hoopla is about.

Can I buy all of my books from Amazon right now, or should I wait until classes start? Should I buy books for just this semester, or for the whole D1 year? I was told that this matters because sometimes you'll only be reimbursed for the current semester's books, and since you only have 45 days to get reimbursed, if you buy your entire year's worth at once, by the time second semester starts you'll be outside of that 45 day maximum. Or the opposite could happen if you were expected to buy your entire year's books and you didn't. By the time you order 2nd semester's books you'll be outside of that 45 day period.

I just don't want to get screwed.

is your enrollment packet finalized?

if i were you, i'd prob call the 1877 army number or your recruiter to find out the status of your packet

Calling the student managment office is the best advise. Basically unless it's a "how to wear the uniform" question, your recruiter has basically zero knowledge of the program. Even then they give bad advise. Here's a hint - you are not authorzed to wear the GWOT badge until you have served 90 days on active service (ADT doesn't count) nor can you officially wear the rainbow ribbon or as we old NCOs call it the "thanks for coming ribbon" until after you have completed BOLC. So, call the student management office first, If you have called the wrong place, they will tell you where to call. The student management office are NOT a bunch of trolls who live under a bridge and eat children as they pass. They are there to help you.

As far as books, order them now and submit when you can. As long as it's an authorized book you will be reimburesed. Don't even think about anything in the "for dummies" or "step up" series - it will be denied. This is all outlined on the Student Policy Handbook and FAQs on MODS..
