Looking at Family Medicine: Ambulatory Care and Prevention... some people have told me that the Textbook of Family Medicine is the way to go but I wanted some opinions on the matter. What is preferred among some? Not really a textbook guy but I figure I should get one resource, aside from uptodate.

John Murtagh`s General Practice is, probably, the best medical book I`ve ever read, I have the old edition. The above link is to the most recent Edition.
It`s Australian, and Australian GP`s are the best out there.

I don't know if there are other threads that cover textbooks. Maybe it will be great to have a textbook thread stickied.

I read the rakel text. It is decent but misses quite a bit. Supplemented it with cleveland clinic IM text, rosen's EM, baby Nelson's, an OB text if in anOB heavy program.

Agreed! I wonder what doctors did before UpToDate existed 😛
