TFE Strategy Question

Hey guys, so I've been having a lot of trouble with the Top Front End portion of the PAT section. I've been practicing as much as possible but I can't seem to get it down. It's hard for me to picture the object in my head, so I found a strategy called the "event counting method" and I've been trying it and it does seem to work most of the time but for some it doesn't. Do any of you guys have tips on this section?


So pretty much the event counting method is this:

The top view lines read left to right should equal the front view lines read left to right.

The front view/top view lines read top to bottom should equal the number of end view lines read left to right.

That is essentially the line counting method.

It is risky to use because back in the day that would work for most problems and the test makers have made it so it no longer works every time.

Useful if the problem allows it but it may lead you to a wrong answer or wasting time just be aware.

Even in the 2009 practice test, you can see that this strat is pretty bad.

The test makers wised up and almost completely eliminated this strategy when I took the test. I think there was only two problems where I could eliminate one answer choice doing this, and this was like 2 years ago.

What is your guys' approach? I just don't know where to start.

Process of elimination is your friend. Go through each answer choice and glance back at the prompt...is that hole supposed to be visible from this end? No? Cross it out. Is this chunk supposed to be taller or shorter than that chunk? Quickly ask yourself random things for each answer choice and pick out the differences among the choices to help you eliminate. I have only used process of elimination for TFE, and I've never used line-counting before. Hope this helps! Good luck 🙂

Thank you! I'll definitely try practicing that method since it is way more comprehensive than counting lines.
