I was browsing through the links of interest and came upon a site (http://www.medicalhelpnet.com/content/view/43/61/ ) that suggests sending a thank you card to your interviewers the day after your interview to leave a positive impression. I was wondering what everyone's opinion on that is or if anyone has actually done it with success? Not something that I would have thought to do, but hey, if it work.....?

It's a good idea. You can ask for their business card for their address.

I did that for all the places I went. I don't know if it helps, but I think of it as sticking your name out there just ONE more time. Who knows? It may be the one thing that puts you over someone else IF (and only if) all other things are equal!

i never thought there is a bad question till i saw yours. i am sorry my man, but being a nice person has never been a bad thing. sending a card not will only show that you are professional but also something nice to do.

i did that with all my interviewers. even if i never read anything about sending cards, i would have still known to do it. maybe i am crazy though.

Yes, it is a very polite thing to do. I never though it a bad thing to do. I was just curious if anyone had positive results.

By the way PERFECT3435, thanks for your kind words. If you haven't ever thought of a bad question before, try reading http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=132780...I see them all the time.

Sending thank you cards to your interviewees is not a bad idea at all - how could hurt? I also recommend that you do this for your recommendors as well (I did). After all they are busy professionals, often working with little praise from their students, and are not required to assist you in your journey. Not only is it in good taste, it might make you stand out more in their minds should an adcom contact them in order to arrive at a final decision. In today's wired world which is altering a lot of protocol it's important to remember the subtle ways you can express your gratitude - something that is frequently overlooked (I have been guilty of this on occassion). It's often the little things that make the biggest impression.

i just thought it was very interesting that you wrote you wouldn't have thought of it. thats not what bothered me about your question. what did bother me was the fact that you'd send a thank you card because you think "if it works then what the hell you might as well do it too".

all i gotta tell you my friend is that trust me it will never hurt to be courteous.

good luck on your app.

Don't waste your time sending out thank you's. The only people who will see it are the secretary's who have absolutely no say whatsoever in the process. Even if someone important does see it I highly doubt it would make a difference.

If you said, "it won't make a difference", then I'd see your point. But you say that you only highly doubt it would make a difference. If that's the case, then the best thing to do would be to take a few minutes and send the thank you letter because there might be a chance, no matter how small, that it could make a difference.

A few people before made two very good points:
1) It will never hurt to send a thank you letter
2) It's a nice, polite, professional thing to do

It's only a few minutes of your life, and you might actually feel good about yourself after it's sent.

Don't waste your time, you'll have plenty of time to suck up to those people once you're in.

I think sending a thank you card is a very good idea. Just like when you are applying for a job, it would be a good ethics sign. Interviewers are going through lots of people and a little thing such as a thank you card will help them recall your name once more.
I am going to send an eCard via email. This way, I know for sure the eCard get straight to the admission bypassing the secretary 🙂

IMHO sending thank you cards could only work in your favor and are definitely worth the extra effort. My career services office had a loose format that they encouraged us to use, where you would:
1. state your appreciation to the interviewer
2. bring up a positive point of the interview ("i found your advice on blah blah really helpful" or "i'm really glad to know that we agreed on blah blah blah")
3. reinforce why you would be a good candidate
4. reinforce you interest in the job/school and your reasons.

I've only really started sending interviewers thank you cards very recently when i was applying to internships for the summer, and so far they haven't deterred me from getting the job i wanted 😳 i think that the extra care you put into your thank you letters will make the committee think about you that much harder.

so in a nutshell- send those thank you cards! anything that distinguishes you in a positive light is worth doing!

i sent one after my 1st interview i think..
..none afterwards.

not sure if it helps or not...but i dont think it hurts.
