I interviewed last week at BU last week. At the end of the interview, my interviewer gave me her card stating that if I had any questions, to contact her. I am thinking about sending her a thank you email.

But the Dean pretty much stated at the end of the orientation that we should all hold off any sort of letter of intent (i.e. "If I can't attend your med school, I will die") at least until after thinking about whether we fit at their school for a while. Otherwise, it seems disingenuous.

I am just wondering if anybody knows if post-interview communication is frowned upon at some schools? And should I still send her a thank you email?

i interviewed at BU as well, and they told us that exact same "If I can't attend your med school, I will die," line. I sent my interviewer a thank you card anyway. I just thanked her for interviewing me, and told her some things I had learned about BU and liked.

I was thinking of starting a thread to list each school and whether they encouraged or discouraged LOI's (or other such additions/updates to your file post-interview).

But I think asking him questions, especially when he gave you his email address, would be entirely appropriate. Just don't email him just to say "OMG I LOVE YOUR SCHOOL AND I'D DIE IF I DIDN'T GO THERE!!!!"

If your interviewer gave you their card, I would hand write a thank you post haste. Thank you letters don't have to be long or even say that you would go to their school. They should just be a thank you for the interviewers time and consideration.

Thanks for the responses. I will definitely send her a thank you email or letter by Monday.
