"Thank you" letter after interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do it. Just go buy a generic pack of blank cards from hallmark or wherever and write the note right after your interview. Easiest way to get the letter to them is to get their business card during/after the interview. I used to write the letters that night in my hotel room and mail it before I left to go home so that it would get there in a timely manner (and so I wouldn't forget what we had talked about).

I did not send a thank you letter and received many acceptances. I felt like my impression should be made at the institution and thank them in person along with a firm handshake.

I was interviewing students for this volunteering position and I remember how the volunteer coordinators were talking about previous days candidates
"hey, a few of them sent out emails with a thank you... that was nice of them!"

so it is a matter of a formality... but like anatty said, if you can write it right after -- along with something that you talked about at the interview, i bet that would make a lasting impression.
whenever i write out thank u letters i always feel like i am b.s-ing... but whenever i get a thank u letter from someone, i smile. i never think, oh they are sucking up to me.

so... 🙂 do it! =D

**this reminds me... i need to write thank you letters to my recommenders....

What if I was interviewed by 4 people?

A committee or 4 individual interviewers? I doubt you'll have a series of 4 interviewers, if you are interviewed by a committee you could address the letter to whoever organized the day (you know, the person who gives the talk and welcomes you etc etc) and tell them to thank the committee for taking time out of their busy day to meet with you and that you enjoyed talking with them about xyz.

Another hint: many schools i went to gave me either a piece of paper with an itinerary or a list of all the interviewers, so even people I did not get their cards from I had their name somewhere in the interview material and I could look them up on the school website later on to send the letter.

definitely must do.
although i didnt' get in last year, when i set up a meeting with school dean to go over my file, they had my thank you letter inside the folder with my application file (which tells me that they do keep those with your application as part of the package)

If you really want to impress them. Make sure to bring the cards with you. Write out a generic statement...leave space to insert their names, and space to add more stuff in the end. Then go and leave it in their boxes RIGHT after the interview. Bomb idea? I think so. Hahaha beat everyone to the punch 🙂

According to predents, he already had his interview...and yes I would send a thank you note addressing the interviewers as a committee. It leaves a big impression for minimal effort. 😀

I believe it depends on the schools or the interviewers. I come across a dental school website says that they don't want students to send any thank-you cards.

If you decide to send one (I'm pretty sure most of you will), make sure you include a nice picture of yours with a big smile 😀 so that they know who is who. I know it sounds gay but that's one way to make a dent on their minds about your existence.
