Thank you note 1 week later?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I did this because I had forgotten and it still worked out for me 🙂

Just wondering if this would be too late. I would like to send one
A memory of an interviewee should last at least this long, so I don't think it's too late, especially if you refer to something that happened during the interview to trigger recall.

I sent mine a week later and got a response a month later... so its not too late

Do it if you want to, it won't affect your chances one way or another.

Adcoms don't give a rat's ass about thank you notes.

But I did get one this morning that made me smile. Of course, the assessment of the interview was written on the day of the interview.

Then there is really no reason to give a thank you note. Of course, it's nice to do so, but it is rather unnecessary with all the other stuff going on.

However....

Would you guys agree that thank you notes following an acceptance might be useful? At least they're meaningful in some way right?

Lawper, I throw the things away unopened!

Useful in what way? You're already accepted.

@Goro @LizzyM Out of pure curiosity, has an interviewee ever brought a thank you card to the interview with the intention of giving it to you directly afterwards?

If your reason for sending a thank-you note is to impress them, it is not a thank-you card, it is an I-hope-I-can-impress-you-with-this-note card.

That said, you should send thank you cards, because you (probably) genuinely appreciate that these people took time out of their day to sit down with you and you would like to let them know that.

So...to extend the question. At what point after the interview does it become awkward to send one? Two weeks? A month? Two months?

I had an amazing interview about a month ago and in my head I keep returning to my conversation with that person even as I visit more schools. Would it be reasonable to send her a note of gratitude? I assume she has already evaluated me and that she likely doesn't remember me without a memory jog.

Never seen that! I'd think it's bizarre; they can thank you in person.

Perversely, I read and respond to thank you emails!

Never once in all my years on the Adcom has the phrase "thank you letter" ever been mentioned in our Adcom meetings.

We are not all cut from the same cloth. They may not have any impact on the decision-making process, but I always read them and still enjoy them.

Depends how good your handwriting is.

Just kidding. Send it! Can't hurt, especially if you frame it that way.

I should specify - was just gonna do an email!
Thanks for the response.
