Quick Question: So far in the process, I've been writing Thank You notes that are just that-- thank you notes and a re-statement of my interest in the school with a mention of an interesting interview topic. Period. One paragraph at most.

However, I spoke with a friend who said he addressed specific weaknesses in his application in several paragraphs.

What is standard format??
Thanks!!

how is that a thank you letter?

a thank you letter is simply something nice you send to the interview for taking the time out to get to know you and tell you about the school and all that. not a place where you address your weaknesses. those things are done at the interview not in a thank you letter.

My thank you notes are even briefer than the ones you wrote. I just write "thank you for the interview at ____ on ____. I really enjoyed talking to you and learning more about the school." I usually write one sentence about something that came up during the interview that is most likely to be the most unique. That's it. I think these people get enough "thank you" notes that I'm hard-pressed to believe they have the attention and/or time to read more than a few lines. I think reminding them of a unique topic that was brough up in your interview, and doing so in one or two lines is far more efficient since that's what they're going to remember. And, at the very least, they'll remember that you wrote the thank you note.
