thank you notes through email

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've done this, so it isn't completely off the table. I did follow this up by sending him a thank you note via US mail too. I would send a thank you e-mail to the interviewer if he/she provided you with their e-mail. IMO, it is a bit presumptuous to look up that person's e-mail on the internet and then e-mail them.

If it is any comfort, I was accepted to that school also.

i sent my thank you notes via email .. but only after the decision was made because I didn't want them to boost my chances and seem non-genuine

yea, i agree it's a little weird to look someone's email address up. My interviewer gave me his business card w/ email address, phone number, etc. good to hear it's acceptable though, thanks.

hmm i always send my thank you notes 2-3 days after the interview, while they are still fresh in my mind. is that against the norm?

If I wasn't on a massive interview trip (4 at one time because I'm horrible at writing letters, and that was way too many), I sent them as soon as I got home, and I sent a letter to the admission office with the interviewer's name on it. I think it's perfectly fine to send them right after the interview. If you wait until after you find out a decision, it may seem like you waited to say thanks just because you got accepted.
