Is it absolutely necessary to send post-interview thank yous? If so, what should it include and can it be just email or email/snail mail etc.

Also what if you have multiple interviewers and don't remember everyone's name? And lastly, does it really affect an interviewer's impression of you, especially since the write up on you is probably all complete.

Thanks 4 the info.

hey there, so it's up to you of course but our schools advisor highly recommends it. you can call admissions and ask them who interviewed you that day and time. send snail mail and thank you note, something short and simple to the interviewers. im going to also send one to the admissions office. they do a ton of work to and for the 5 mins it takes to fill out a couple thank you cards, you never know the impact it can have. some admissions even reconsider students based on a simple reminder and note. im sending thank you notes but thats just my opinion. best of luck,

It shows you have class, despite the outcome. If you can't remember names you could always refer it to the Director of Admissions or just the Admissions Committee.

I'd like to talk to the ad com member that actually did that. I don't think it makes any difference whatsoever. If a 30 minute interview doesn't convince them, then why would a thank-you note? It's a nice gesture, but it will not have an impact in their decision.

I agree with DocHomer, while it is a nice gesture that is completely on your part. I seriously doubt it makes a difference in your admission. First of all, your interviewer may not and prob not the one that makes the final call on your acceptance. They provide feedback to those that makes the decisions. By the time your notes reach them (and most ppl think snail is proper but we're in a modern era now, I say e-mail is plenty sufficient not to mention fast), their review on you would have been submitted already. In fact, by the end of the interview day, your interview notes are prob already submitted. So, at least IMO, thank you notes is nice and it doesn't hurt to send it, but to have a say on 'accept' or 'reject' is very unlikely.

The Thank You Note has no impact on the decision. The interviewer usually makes his or her decision about you once the interview is over. Its just a nice gesture to the person who took the time to interview you out of their hectic schedule.

A thank you note should be mailed to any interviewer.
So... this is a med school interview!!!
YES!

Good point. Sending one is a kind gesture and it adds class, no matter how insignificant it may be. However, don't ask them to be your facebook friends!

I typically e-mail. Most schools provide the e-mail address, which seems to be a hint.

I have sent thank you cards to interviewers at both the schools I interviewed at so far. LECOM-Erie I mailed it to the school via the post office but at Nova I sent an email, as the interviewer's email addresses were provided to us.....yes, "hint hint". But I agree also, that for thank you notes to have a significant impact on decision making is pretty ridiculous. Highly doubtful someone would have an interview where they were that much on "the edge" where a thank you note would put them over to an acceptance!!!

If you end up on a waitlist, I could see how a thank you note might contribute. Or if you do not get in at all, and re-apply next year, they may recall the class you demonstrated by sending a thank you note the year before.

I wasn't sure I would send thank-yous until I went to my interview. My interviewers were super nice and helpful, so I felt that a thank you was appropriate.
