I have 18 hours left of residency. On overnight call so i can have tomorrow off.

I wanted to thank all of you who directly or indirectly supported me since I was a 2nd year Medical Student. I have learned a lot on these forums despite its occasional negativity.

Special shout-outs to Jet, MMD, Ventdependent and the many other prolific and intelligent posters.

A very special shout out to the dude that hired me! NOYAC 😀
Macallan cask strength unopened awaits. My sis bought it for my graduation. We will have to raise a glass.

Take care,

It's gonna be a... Dre Day!

Congrats Dre. Great location to start out your career. 👍

Jet comes and goes as he pleases around here....kinda posts in spurts and then takes a break for a while.

Dre, I hope Noyac doesn't keep you too busy at the new gig to post on here from time to time!

Ditto that. I'm 12 hours from walking out as well.

I feel for you guys who had to work till the bitter end. I was the last CA3 on call on the 21st (including the GSW to the head the ultimately led to procurement) and we got the 28th-30th off.

Eh. I planned it like this. Took the first week of June off for vacation. Using my saved vacation to bridge my benefits through July and collect a couple paychecks while I study for boards. Not starting the new gig til August.

Good luck and God speed. The journey now begins.

T- 12 hours 6 minutes. Waiting for the trauma to come out of the CT scanner.

I thought of that today. Great post.

Zip:

Last day of residency was ,without a doubt, one of the best days of my life... I was on call, 3AM get a call from burn unit to emergently intubate a big guy that had been 50% burned upper torso with smoke inhalation. Half a stick of STP and 100 o' sux-- all edema. I told myself I wasn't goin' out like this. Just rammed a 7.5 where I thought it should be and it slid in. BS bilateral and PCXR was solid. O2 sats golden and RT lady all happy. No procedure note, no charge sheet. Beeper left at OR board when no one was lookin'. Slid out hospital at 0645 with no goodby's, thank you's or gonna miss you's. Got to the apt. and loaded up U-Haul with 100% VA disability, 100% SS disability uncle( Vietnam, agent orange, PTSD--you know the bogus gig). Letter and keys in an envelope dropped in the apt. night box. No change or forwarding of address with post office, no cares about apt. or electric deposits. ZIPPY DONE EVAPORATED! Roll on out at 1700 with floorboard boom box playin' "Comfortably Numb", and a bottle of chilled Wild Turkey in the ice chest. Uncle drivin' and on outskirts of town we light up a big fat doober. I told him not to shut off the old biitch until we were home. Ole Hunter Thompson didn't have a thing on us that night... Regards, ---Zip

Just wanted to congratulate Dre and echo his statments. My first post to this board was in May, 2003 as a first year medical student. I basically asked the usual "why anesthesiology" questions and got ripped a little bit for it. I persisted on...and have done most of my communicating though PM's to UTSW, Jet, and a host of others.

Flash forward 7 years (what?!?) and I'm 9 hours away from finishing my residency. I am extremely thankful that I found this forum. I absolutely LOVE what I am doing. Even though I will fight the good fight by donating to the ASAPAC, I know that no matter what happens to medicine I will be happy with my job.

Dre', get your arse down here. I want some scotch (drinking Laphroaig right now as I type).

Congrats to you and all the other grads.

PS: Gimlet, I remember you. Keep me in mind when you finish up. And I'll take DHB as well. We will have our own little SDN paradise practice. I might even have Jet here by then if he gets tired of one disaster after another.

BTW, if Dre' had his way he would do a Zippy exit with a twist. He would run from Oregon to his new practice in Colorado.

PS: Dre' if you still want to run across the country let me know. We may be able to swing it.

Congrats man.

Where is VentDependent these days anyway?

One of his most recent posts:

Working as an ER doc. Also doing urgent care at a rural clinic where I see everything. Not too bad actually. Got one 17month old son, and another comming next month. Just got back from mexico vacation. The tan is already fading exponentially. Yikes!

All is well.

I'll be giving a talk at Mayo Rochester grand rounds this month. So if any of you guys go there, check it out.

Keep fighting the good fight homies.

Venty

Noy, I would jump at that opportunity in a heartbeat! As a newly-minted CA-1 (well, starting tomorrow), I'll be working hard to turn out to be the type of anesthesiologist that could cut it with your superstar group.

foul, 5 yards penalty, repeat 2 nd down

The whole abuse system is based on the prospect of being paid at the end...good job gimlet for realizing and starting the process now

👍👍 Congrats, guys and gals! 👍👍

As I sit here in the hospital on 7/1 looking at all of these people walking around with newly lengthened white coats and wide eyes, I can't help to ponder how terrified I will be 4 years from today. 😱

While part of me can't wait to be done with "official" training (I suppose your training never stops, one of the best things about medicine), there is more of me that can't wait to savor the ride.

Congrats to the new CA-1s, I bet it feels great to finally be doing what you want to do.

Congrats to all that have persevered 4 years of residency... I can only imagine that it feels like being on top of the world! Congratulations, I hope that everybody gets some good R&R time before starting winning that bread.

My bestfriend, here, just bought me 18 yr MAcallan in the oak case. We'll have to open it together.

I did contemplate running or cycling to CO. Unfortunately, my new group wants me to get there quick so they can take vacations !! 🙂

I am still thinking about running across the country for a pediatric charity.

Right now, however, I am loving cycling. I am doing that 520 mile race in August.

If I qualify for RAAM for 2011, I think I will do it (assuming I can get vacation time ~ 2wks).

Look forward to seeing you soon. Maybe we can do a ride and have a beer next friday or sat if you are in town.

Had to switch call to do a motocross enduro race the following weekend. I will be on-call next weekend. We'll get plenty of riding in, don't worry.
