Thanksgiving vacation?

Hello, I’m from ecuador and I’m going to the United States for a shadowing rotation. I have family in another city where I’m going for the rotation and I would like to visit them on thanksgiving but I don’t know if the doctor I will be shadowing has vacation.
Does anyone know if vacation are mandatory and from which to which date this year?

Vacation is not mandatory. If you're shadowing in an outpatient clinic, it's most likely closed on Thanksgiving but may very likely be open the day before and the day after. Our clinics certainly are. If you're shadowing inpatient, sick patients don't take holidays, and someone has to cover them.

You could always ask the doctor if you can take off a couple days.
