Hello!
Brief history: I have always wanted to be a doctor. I am a 25 year old nurse in Florida. My first undergrad degree was in Psychology, and after realizing that I only majored in it because it seemed interesting at the time, I took a year off to figure out what I wanted to do. Since I was 14 I knew I wanted to be a doctor. But for some reason or another I just didn't go for it: finances, it would be too hard, I would be too old to start a family, yadda yadda. After taking off a year I decided that I still wanted to do something medical related, and so I became a nurse and am now working as one. I have a lot of respect for nurses but I'm missing something as a nurse. I want more medical knowledge, I want to know and learn things and specialize and diagnose and treat. My plan thus far is to apply for Nurse Practitioner school at the end of this year. But I'm wondering if while I'm working as a nurse, if I can't finish off medical school prereqs, which would take me a couple of years, and then there's the MCAT. I've taken a few prereqs but that was over six-seven years ago and those grades are either B's or C's. Do you think I should consider med school or become a NP and try my best to acquire all that knowledge that I really crave? Without residency, I feel that I will still crave the knowledge and experience a doctor has. I'm too young to have regrets and I don't want to cut myself short anywhere.
Thank you for your time!

Sounds like you're going to regret settling for NP and not going all the way. Just go for it. If you don't get accepted into med school, you can always do NP. There are former nurses on these forums who've worked full time, taken classes, and gotten accepted into medical school.

If you retake those courses and finish the pre-reqs, DO schools will view your application much more favorably.

Only you can decide if this is worth it though!
