This thread is for users of the TMDSAS. This is my second time applying to dental school and last years thread was extremely useful for me, so i decided to start up a new one for this years application cycle. How many of you have already turned in your applications? Any interviews yet?

I submitted my aplication May 30th; Baylor is asking for letters of rec. from dentist, which I plan to send in a week. No interviews yet; I am pretty sure they will start mid August, so I am just waiting.

Thanks for starting up this thread...not necessarily for responses about TMDSAS, but also for applying to Texas Dental Schools in general. My application was sent out to schools last week, and now it's a matter of trying to relax and wait for responses. I applied (as I'm sure most of us did) to all three. I personally thought TMDSAS was going to be a pain in the a#*, but ended up being pretty convenient to use. Also, I'm still waiting on AADSAS to print and submit my applications to schools when I turned that application in at the same time as my TMDSAS. Granted, TMDSAS doesn't have as many to process...but that's good for us.

Good luck to all other Texas hopefuls.

so i got a letter from TMDSAS saying that they sent out my application on June 15th; however, my pre-healthcare committee sent my evaluation on June 21st. I have been checking the status page to see if it's posted, but i have yet to see that TMDSAS received it. also, Baylor sent me a letter last week requesting the evaluation...any advice? should i be worried it's not posted as received?

If you have any questions about the status of your application just call the TMDSAS down in Austin and they can look it up for you. I had to do that many times last year when my state residence status was in question and when they lost my application that i subitted three weeks prior. SO i woUld just call them and ask them directly.

I second that. TMDSAS has been very helpful for me as well although most of the communication was done via email.

Good luck applying everyone. If anyone has any questions about UT Houston let me know. I'm happy to help, and I may see some of you if you interview here.

I am just curious to see if anybody has heard from the dental schools about potential interviews?

I would think that San antonio would be giving out interviews in July. They seem to have an earlier time table then baylor or UTH.

San Antonio's first interview in the past was in August. Of course they may have changed this now that they don't take off as much time in the summer. UTH will likely start interviewing Mondays in late Aug/early Sept.

hey, i was just wondering, san antonio is my #1 choice, what DAT score would be good inorder to be a competitive student.

My friend got in with a DAT of 15 but his GPA was a 3.9, I was on the waiting list last year with a 18 DAT Score and a GPA of 3.3. I would think you are going to get a interview with a score of at least a 17-18. It is different from person to person.

if you took your DAT mid august, you could still be a part of the first wave of acceptances right?

i would like to think so...given you have your application completed 🙂

Seeing how your friend got a 15 on the DAT and a 3.9 gpa, makes one wonder how good his college education was. If he is not a good test taker, how the hell does he expect to pass the boards??? I guess I am bitter thats all, and to add insult to injury this will be my third year of applying in Texas. Beggining to think Texas just doesn't like me!

Texas is definitely getting harder to get into each year. I wouldn't blame you for being upset about the 3.9/15 example. It may depend on where the student went to school. There definitely is grade inflation out there (and a 15 is pretty low), but if the student came in from a well known school the adcom may have dismissed the 15 as not indicative of the students abilities. As far as failing the boards, it's pretty hard to fail. The few people that do usually only fail 1 section and then just retake it later on. Have you dropped by Houston's admissions office. It's not a bad idea to come by and ask to talk with someone about how you could improve your application. Same goes for the other schools.

maybe the person with the 15 was on a wait list? and was the next best choice??

how long ago was your friend accepted? last year? cuz a 15 sounds pretty damn ridiculous...especially for an AA...
