The 2007 Interview Invites Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Question about USC - I was just wondering how complete your applications were (i.e. 1, 2, or 3 letters of rec in) - I only have 1 right in right now, and am wondering if I should be concerned...

Thanks!

Still early! I have 1 letter in right now, but got invites from USC, Yale New Haven, Columbia, Dartmouth, Mayo, UCI etc... I submitted my CAF early Sept, but did not apply to schools until the second week or so. Like many who have submitted their apps early, we have been offered interviews even without full sets of LORs.

I think invites are only sent out after someone has had a chance to at least look at your profile/scores, so maybe they haven't gotten to your apps quite yet...I would hold for a couple more weeks. I still haven't heard back from a bunch of programs.

Submitted my ERAS on 9/10. Still missing my chair letter and dean's letter. I probably over-applied (30+ programs). Oh well.

Invites:
WashU - 9/14
Emory - 9/24
Baylor - 9/26
UC Irvine - 9/27
Mayo - 9/28
UAB - 10/1
Columbia - 10/4
U Colorado 10/4
U Mich - 10/5

Invites so far:

-Nebraska
-Iowa
-Kansas
-Indiana
-Cincinnati
-Ohio State
-Utah
-Wisconsin
-William Beaumont

🙄

Wow, it seems like some of you applied to over 20 programs! any reason why? I thought 16 was overkill...maybe I am missing something here?

I belive that many who applied to > 20 programs plan to choose 10 or so places they'd most like to interview.

I applied to 30 programs, and applied to most of the top 20 programs (except Mayo...hate cold weather) and a few strong regional programs in desirable locations. I didn't expect to get an interview at every one of the top 20 programs...but would have always wondered "what if?" if I never applied. I belive many here have similar thoughts.

after a slow week for interviews last week...Cleveland Clinic.

I'm looking forward to forming a personal opinion of this place after what has been posted about it.

Yep, definitely a slow week last week.
- Cleveland Clinic
- U Michigan (worried this one would never come in)

Got Cleveland Clinic today as well. Also got Drexel.

Drexel and Carilion Medical Center (VA) today

Are you guys junior/senior AOA?

Adding:

St. Joseph in Phoenix

I'm assuming I've been rejected from the ones you guys got invites to! 🙄

1. WashU
2. Vandy
3. Duke
4. MUSC
5. Northwestern

ivies are going to be tough to get an interview without aoa

Finally,
-Mayo Scottsdale
Coming in slowly, but surely. 11 more to go. Good luck everyone and I'll see you on the trail. Peace!

Do you guys prefer continuing to list them as they come in (by your user, as a few recent folks have)? Or, would you rather we compile it like the EM folks are doing? : http://drslounge.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=447030&page=4

I like the EM format.. but to have someone go back through the whole thread to change the format may be quite a bit of work. But then again, i'm sure there are some folks on here that may have the time to burn and would not mind doing it as they take a break from checking their ERAS every 5 minutes for a new interview invite.:laugh:

p.s. I always liked the format in which people put the date beside their name on which they received the interview. Helps to visualize whether the programs are sending out mass interviews on one day or if they are sending them out randomly as they review apps.

Midwestern Medical School, ERAS submitted on 9/18, Med School transcript finally uploaded by my school this morning 🙂mad🙂, 2 letters in....

The offers so far...
WashU- Sept 24
University of Wisconsin- Sept 25
Rochester General(Rochester, NY) - 9/27
Mt. Sinai (New York City)- 10/3
Duke- 10/8

I've applied to 20 and don't intend to interview at more than 10 tops. I've got AOA status and a good step one score, but as my list is rather ambitious (unfortunately haven't heard back from the ambitious part of the list yet) I decided to apply to a lot and wait for interviews to narrow it down.

i was just wondering, do programs send out their interviews in one lump composite, or do they sporadically send then out. For instance, I saw people recieved interviews at Mt. Sinai in NYC...I didn't get one yet...Does this mean I will never get a Mt. Sinai interview or that because I submitted my app in mid september I may still get one but just at a later date?😎

Also these larger university programs on the east coast interview their own first correct? So is it possible that some of these people interviewing at columbia and sinai are from those schools, which is why they are getting them earlier....i hope...woh is me

anyone else having a problem with USC emails? last friday i got an email through my eras and my email from them asking me if i had recieved their letter because the message they sent me came back as an error.

I replied and told them i didn't receive any letter and asked them to resend it. I didn't hear anything back and today I get another message through eras/my email saying that saying that their messages are being blocked by med school email accounts and are asking for an alternative email.

what i don't understand is how do i keep getting these "sorry our letter isn't going through" messages if my email account is blocking direct messages from them. why dont they just send it through eras. something must be wrong with their system. especially because i have recieved other interviews by email and corresponded with other programs without a problem. i don't know why my school email would be blocking everything from usc and not any other schools.

so whats up?? anyone have any ideas?

😕

Not that i'm an expert but from the one school i do know about (my own) i know for a fact they do not send out interviews in one lump composite. the order with which they are sent out at my school doesn't necessarily have anything to do with competitiveness - factors include when received, region of country, letter of last name, etc. some schools want certain items to be complete before reviewing; others review as files come in, others have cutoffs and other criteria...so it varies from school to school. someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i would venture to say that just because you were not invited with the first batch does not mean you wouldn't hear from them later on...it could be they just haven't gotten around to reviewing your application yet if you sent it in a bit later.

don't know about east coast schools...didn't apply...

i nearly almost deleted the email i got from usc because it had no subject and i didn't recognize the sender. it's a good thing i opened it before deleting it! i didn't get anything in eras either. it wasn't filtered as spam, but then again i use my med school email which doesn't usually block anything as spam.

i would suggest calling them instead of emailing.

Fearing I'd end up regretting not applying to Mayo (Rochester), I submitted to them on 10/9 and recieved an invite today. This should give some idea of how quick the turnaround time is once a program starts reviewing apps. Apparently it doesn't matter if you submit early or not...only for getting first dibs on interview dates.

Very lucky...very fortunate...and very thankful

2 more invites today:

Kaiser SF via email/ERAS
Kaiser Santa Clara via email
