Aside from those programs who wait until MSPE, still waiting on Yale, UVA, Duke, GW. Is it time to call or do I assume I will not get these interviews? AOA, StepsI/II mid 250's/mid 260's

did u apply late? I allready heard from all those on your list plus yale, UCSF, mayo

Also AOA, Step I > 245, Step II next week....if you applied late, I'm sure you'll hear from yale soon.
 
Seriously guys, stop worrying about not hearing from Hopkins. You're not going to until a week or so into November unless you go here (or apparently if you've rotated here). I hate seeing ppl stress out. :luck:

Who is stressing about not hearing from Hopkins?? I didn't get that impression. I think we're stressing more about those programs that DO offer interviews before Nov 1 that we've not heard from. Most of us accept that we won't hear from Hopkins till after MSPE.
 
Applied sep 18th, but transcipt not uploaded until 10/18, last two letters in 10/22.

Haha, yes I do (but I guess I thought that was old news). But, if trying to keep ppl from stressing about an interview invite they can't have gotten yet is annoying, I'll keep my big mouth shut then. 😉 😛


(And it was for fexofen who said "No word from JHU or UCSF yet" yesterday)

I had application submitted 9/11 and everything (except MSPE) was uploaded by 9/22. Heard from yale 10/2.

if you allready heard from mayo and ucsf than i'm sure yale is not too far behind!!! Plus...if you allready heard from mayo and ucsf do still care about hearing from yale?

Pretty solid, amazing teaching, very smart people from all walks, older facilities, intense feeling. Glad I made it back home alive and safe after living across the street in THE ghetto. ...nothing that people aren't already aware of.
 
Northwestern today.

It seems like this program has a pretty random way in which it reviews applications. My application was complete on 9/4. I've seen many SDNers whose applications were complete later than that receive interviews weeks ago. Moral of the story. If you haven't heard from Northwestern yet, it does not mean you didn't get an interview.

I've been on SDN for years and my old name made it seem like I was still a pre-med. I decided to make a new name (and status) since I'll only be a med student for another 6 mos but a resident for the next 3 years of my life.

I guess I could figure out how to leave it as student for now and then change it when the time comes around, but when they asked me during the signing up process, it just seemed easier. I don't mean to perpetrate :laugh:

I was looking for the thread that I saw in here months ago - like June/Julyish about what factors and or questions to look at when choosing a program - I remember it being pretty practical, and some of the factors not entirely intuitive (it would be a great resource for when you are asked, "So, do you have any questions for us?" And they WILL ask). Anyone remember this thread? I've look through some of the old stuff, without much success . . . I'll keep looking, but if anyone remembers, it would be supper cool to post a link.

Was there any consensus on when to interview that one or two programs you really, really, really want? Early, or late? I'm thinking late . . .

Anyway, congrats to those getting invites where you want them . . .
 
Accroding to Iserson's Guide to REsidency it says interview late cos they remember you, that and it says early interviews are given to weaker applicants (not sure if I believe that) but several program directors on this forum state it really doesn't matter when you interview.

i'm just wondering (not that i have a chance at cornell) but what is the deal with one hospital having 2 medicine residencies. how does that work?

Its my understanding that they are in the Presbyterian system but seperate hospitals. Columbia is in the Washington Heights, Harlem area north of central park. Cornell is a seperate facility that is in the Upper East Side of Manhatten. They share Memorial Sloan Kettering for Heme/Onc I think. I dont know too much more.

In the land before time....

actually it wasnt that long ago...columbia and cornell were two separate hospitals systems. That changed a little while ago where they merged to form one big conglomerate = New York Presbyterian. Althugh that is the case, both hospitals have their own residencies and medschools. I'm not sure but I think the merger was more for administrative purposes b/c the only time cornell residents see columbia residents i believe is when they rotate at places like memorial sloan kettering (as allready mentioend by another post). Otherwise cornell residents don't rotate at columbia nor vice versa.

Im pretty sure that Columbia and Cornell residents dont interact in a hospital setting at all. Sloan Kettering is Cornell's hospital (NYU residents rotate through there also I think). Of course, both have a very strong match to Sloan though.

The story of NYP is that Cornell, being in Manhattan, was making money left and right but was missing out on some services that Columbia, which was in the red and in Harlem, had. The hospital administrations decided a merger was financially feasible and would benefit both institutions, and thus NYP-Cornell/Columbia was formed.

I think overall its a top 5 hospital with their combined services, but the residents as far as I know stay completely seperated academically.

on a totally different note....took step 2 ck today...wtf....wasnt a walk in the park that everyone says it was....f'ing computer froze during one of the media questions!!!
 
Man no love from Cornell, Yale or Stanford. Hopefully it's because I submitted my application late and not becuase I'm a complete 😕.

I noticed that you are already going to 10+ interviews and have several programs at which you definitely want to interview... Just curious... Are you going to cancel some of the already scheduled interviews for UCSF, UW, Stanford? If not, how do you plan to travel? I'm especially curious b/c I've scheduled 10 and am finding it extremely difficult to balance the time!

Yes I will be cancelling some interviews to make room for the others. And yes it's extremely tasking to schedule them all.
