Still no love from stanford, mgh, brigham, bidc, columbia, and quite surprisingly, also haven't heard from UCSD.

Busy day,

Hopkins(today)
UCSF(today)
University of Chicago(today)

UCSD(11/5)

No word from Stanford, University of Washington or the Harvard programs

What's the deal with UCSF, I noticed a number of people getting invites in october before the MSPE. Isn't it the most competative IM program in the country. Did the people who get invites do away rotations there or go to school there?

congrads on the invites, lucky you haven't heard from Univ of Wash yet, cuz apparently they've sent out lots of rejects this week, so you obviously weren't on those lists.

My wireless died this weekend and had no access to sdn for 2 days....i almost died!! On a FREAKIN weekend when no one is sending out invites. I think I would say yes to every single one of the CAGE questions if you related it to sdn.

Have you ever felt you should cut down on time spent at sdn?
Have people annoyed you by criticizing your relentless "refreshing" of this thread?
Have you ever felt bad or guilty about your time here and not with your significant other?
Have you ever woken up and gone to sdn first thing in the morning to steady your nerves (eye-opener)?

AOA, Step 1 > 245, Step 2 (took one week ago), many publications, no away rotations at any of the above places, mid - lower tier medical school.

I think I'll give myself another week of worrying about the places I have not heard from yet and then just accept the reality of not being good enough (especially the harvard programs) for some of these places.

Sounds like a great list! I would say based on the places you've been invited to so far, you're "good enough" for any of the programs...
but, based on the very weird order in which I've been getting iviews, I would say that, while it's probably not totally random, it kinda looks that way... all the programs seem to either be looking for different things or in different orders... you can make the cut at more competitive programs and then wait forever to hear from the less competitive ones...

But so many people on this thread have great lists -- maybe the trick is not to set your heart on any one program... which I think I am guilty of 😳. yow.

Anyway, if you don't hear from the other programs, that stinks but I wouldn't say it's because you're not good enough!

That said, the Harvard programs seem to have just started.

I haven't heard from UChicago either... in looking at their website, I am wondering if it's because I don't have my Step II score??

Pardon my ignorance but i keep seeing AOA popping up in the american grads posts when they talk about their qualifications, what exactly is AOA?😕

It's an honors society based on grades, clinical performance, and I think extracurriculars as well. Some schools don't hold elections for it until after applications are finished, but for those that do, getting AOA can be a big deal on your app. I don't know how much of an impact not having AOA is...

You can probably do a search on it in the med school forums for better info.

According the the AOA rules or whatever, the top 1/6 of a class can be elected. Basically they take the top 1/4 and select the top of that group based on numerous factors (GPA, class rank, EC's, etc). Some of these can be elected junior year, some senior year.
At my school, we elect in Sept so its in time for ERAS and the top 1/6 based only on class rank. They get the rank list from the dean based on cumulative gpa and take exactly the top 1/6 (our class is 206 * 1/6 = 34 students).
Hope this helps... I have no idea what it does in the application process, thats prob a better question for aprogramdirector...
