MCAT- taking August 23(scoring around 24-25 on practice tests)

Do I have a chance for DO school?

How are your ECs? Volunteer experience? Research experience? Community involvement? DO shadow hours? Good LORs?

There is always a chance and I think it comes down to putting yourself in the best position possible. Differentiate yourself from all others. And go rock the MCAT and ensure you get that 25.

Damn I wish you the best. I think a lot of schools have auto-cut offs at 2.75 sGPA but I could be wrong.

Retake some of the science classes you did bad in which will boost up your sGPA. Try to get it up to 3.0 at least. The MCAT is pretty good. Explain your situation to AdComs. Wishing you the best:xf:

THANKS! My primary was sent out on June 3rd (email from TMDSAS) and on the 23rd I got the email from TCOM saying "has notified us that your primary is being sent to us" blah blah blah... I completed the secondary towards the end of June and got the call for my interview July 14th.

So I didn't get a confirmation email (official receipt of the primary) from TCOM, it may be worth a phone call to verify that they've received it. Definitely get on the secondary app ASAP if you haven't done so already. PM me if you have any questions, and join us on the school specific thread, lots of great info there! Good luck! :luck:

Thanks man! I just found out that they haven't received my LOR yet, which is strange because TMDSAS received my committee packet like 2 weeks ago! I'm calling them tomorrow to figure out what the deal is... but I submitted my secondary like over a week ago. It's just this darn committee packet. WTFFF

DEFINITELY call! My committee packet (whoop!) was sent with my primary so you should definitely be concerned if they say they haven't received it... Hope it gets worked out soon!

I see a lack of shadowing physicians outside of OB/Gyn and not much patient-centered volunteering. When you shadow a DO, it would be good to do IM or FM. Maybe volunteer at some free clinic nearby?

i'm accepted in to touro-nv!!!!

:highfive::soexcited::clap::nod::banana:

Congrats! How are you accepted already?

I have invites to LECOM-B and AZCOM, August and September, respectively. Not sure I'm on the front page though DJack!! 😉

Sorry, what were your stats? And congrats!

Your GPA is good, just kill that MCAT!

Best of luck to you! You have a great MCAT. Grade replacement should help you a ton. 👍

So I finally submitted my primary applications yesterday.

When should I be expecting secondaries to come in?

And should I submit my LORs right now or wait until the secondaries come in?

*I took my MCAT again several days ago, thus I have not submitted a grade to AACOMAS

First time applying to TCOM. cGPA 3.3 MCAT 27 & 30. Submitted secondary this week. Good luck to everyone:luck:

I just called them today and talked with Amy. Apparently even though my TMDSAS received the committee letter on 7/19, TMDSAS just sent the letter out yesterday (8/1). I had no idea it would take so long!! But she said to check my status regularly and it should be verified soon!! 🙂

At least she got my DO rec letter, which I submitted way after 7/19. lol... sometimes these things are just so confusing it's funny!

Good luck bro! Hope we both get some love from TCOM (and other TX schools, lol).

Interview at LECOM-B!

Are we listing rejections as well? Would be interesting lol..

REJECTED: DMU before even sending a secondary.

(haha, poster above me, I just posted a reply on another thread where you were the last poster too.)

So here's the situation: I have a c.gpa 3.3. and scigpa prob recalculated around a 3.0 (not sure yet since my physiology classes have to be added in). My undergrad was extremely hard. But I was a double major, dual research positions, and I'm doing an accelerated master's this coming year in sports med. Tons of ECs. Shadowed MDs, will be shadowing a DO after my MCAT.

However, I'm applying right now for entrance 2012.

What are my chances? My mcat is this friday. I've been scoring around 28's 27's.. Being honest, my timing SUCKS major. I just hope I can get another 27/28 and not work overtime..
Should I apply all DO? Or shoot for an MD?

Haha I think the list would look discouraging... I've gotten three lol

It really depends on your MCAT score. GPA is below average, but you have a unique undergrad and good ECs. MDs would be a reach with a sub 30 MCAT and I'd apply as many DO schools as you can afford. Best of luck to both of us 😀

Bah, they don't know what they're missing out on 😉 Underdogs are the most motivated people to become physicians ever!

I've been told that a master's in sports med was a good idea for me to pursue, however since it's accelerated (I started taking grad classes in my senior year) my actual grades may not be added into my gpa. I mean, since I'm applying right now, it'd be like all theyre looking at is "tentative" grades. How does that fare?

This is my retake for my mcat. I honestly can't push any more information into my head or take any more summers off just to study for this test. Ive done this twice =\

ps. haha really haven't gotten a chance to turn in primaries. Talked to some of my friends who applied last year for DO and they all said it'd be okay, but to wait post-mcat.

uhh.. Let's hope?

It's getting kinda late into the cycle. Anticipate 4 weeks time to get verified which leaves you right around September 1st. It'll really depend on how fast you can pump out the secondaries. What did you get on the 1st MCAT?

Hope you kill the one this Friday. Timing is all about taking loads of full length tests. Helped me to lock myself in a room without any distractions, not even food/water.

Thanks dude, I really hope I nail it to. It's about time..

First mcat was a doozy. I have no idea why I decided to go ahead and take it (false sense of confidence?) Got a whopping 20. Awesome. But hey here's the great news, I got an R on writing, and a 9 on verbal without trying. English ftw?

I'll cross our fingers for us both.

True, I think reapplicants typically do very well IF they make it into a program.

Interview at AZCOM!! I was wait listed there last year.
Time for you to show them what they've been missing! :luck:

Anyone else jump when they get an email? I get my emails on my phone and every time it makes that little "You've got mail" sound I scramble like no other. Sadly, only disappointment follows.

*You've got mail* "Honey! Great news! I'm pregnant." "god, don't you understand I'm waiting for a med school interview? Don't e-mail me unless it's actually important."

A bit late, but you should be fine for any school you apply to.

Kinda late, but you'll be fine due to your stats. Put that primary in ASAP and start pre-writing secondaries. Submit secondaries asap.. You're not really an underdog though....

When did you submit your secondary to AZCOM? Did you also apply to CCOM?

I applied to both and complete early - mid July. Submitted AACOMAS June 1.

I really don't think it's late at all; having applied last cycle and being complete in March. I still was able to get a few interviews with less than stellar stats. That being said, most of the classes were filled at the schools I interviewed at, but there were still seats (so we were told). I'd say getting your app in before September is fine.

Hi guys. I am applying this cycle, and my AACOMAS app has been verified.

My stats are:

3.80 cGPA, 3.80 sGPA, 22M 1st MCAT, 26Q 2nd MCAT

Please add me to the list, thanks!

Man, if 3.8's are underdogs im really flipping scared. Drjack, might want to post hockeydocs first line from last years thread, about neurotic 3.9 and their horrible high 20 low thirty mcat scores. lol

Haha I know. I don't think people fully understand what the averages are for matriculants at DO schools.

and I am complete at

OUCOM
and I have been invited to interview at
