The 2012 Olympic Thread

Hahaha! Love the Netherland Antilles athletes (or Independent Olympic Athletes or whatever they call them--it's kind of a bummer when your country is dissolved). But they were kind of awesome.
And the fourth guy who isn't there yet is pretty awesome too just for being there for everything he's been through recently.

Yeah they were fun :hardy:

I thought it was kind of fitting really. And I liked the music. Obviously it wasn't as flashy/theatrical as the Beijing Olympics but I'm not quite sure you can really match that . I feel like if it was like that I would have been confused because that's not England or the UK to me. And I won't ruin it for you cfc but I like what they did at the end of the ceremony.

You totally repeated. Hahaha.

Ha. My bad. On my phone and it's not showing me attachments right now for some reason. Great minds ( and names 😉 ) think alike.

Fantastic coincidence! And I think I like Trilt's better 🙂.

Ahhhhh!! I wish I had TV right now! I had to work during Opening Ceremonies 🙁 I'll have to do some googling to find a good streaming site. Gymnastics are my favorite! 😀 For the last couple weeks, I've been watching Make It or Break It on Netflix.

I watched that for a whole too! I love etching gymnastics! If I didn't start riding when I was little I would have either stayed with gymnastics or started dancing.

I think there might be some open events/ available tickets while I am in London. Not any super good events ( although the men's fencing may not be too bad) but debating if I should try to get tickets or not. Would be cool to say that I saw some Olympic events. Hmmm..

DO IT!!!!! Always great to say you went to the Olympics... I would if I were going to be in London! 🙂

Hey guys! Slow moving this morning after staying up to watch opening ceremonies. I loved some of it (The rings being lifted into place was amazing! And I'm so glad Mary Poppins dropped in! hehe) but I hated how they had kids light the flame. To me, that should be something you earn by being an accomplished Olympian. But that's just me...maybe I'm just jealous. 😛

DVM: go if you can! But be sure to report back!

Gonna be on the road all day (DVR is on recording overload ) so keep the thread going without me.

PS. How is it that in the Olympics even fencing is fun to watch?! 😕 😀

Cycling, which has been on at work all morning, isn't even fun in the Olympics. Looking forward to more interesting sports this afternoon!

Short track cycling is fun to watch, because you want to see them tip over.

Live Scores for Eventing

So far the Aussies are ahead, the USA is trailing behind by almost 20 points. We still have some impressive riders to come so hopefully we can pull ahead!! :luck::xf:

Has anyone had success watching the games online?

I have a free afternoon and tried the official NBC site for men's gymnastics... but it says I need to sign in with my TV provider to watch anything 🙁. The whole reason I'm online is that I don't have a TV!!!!

Grrr.

I accidentally checked my phone so now I know the results of the Men's 400m I.M. And my mom's pissed cause it just showed up when she was changing channels on a news reel/ticker thing. 😡

Volleyball. Yay!

I used to play at a fairly high level; one of my teammates was an olympic team try-out. Love the sport. My knees made me quit a while back.... I was playing tournaments on the road and coming home and not able to make it up the stairs at work the next day. Decided it was time to quit before I totally wrecked.

I've had the same problem.. 🙁

I'm really sad about Phelps 🙁. I just don't think his heart is in it this time around. 8th position...geez.

I was referring to the final results for medaling but he needs to start going out faster. I feel like he holds back too much in the beginning and then has to play catch up.

Little rave: I will be in London for 3 days during the Olympics! I will not likely see an event but I will be exploring the grounds 🙂

Ack! *Covers ears*

That wasn't in reference to anything from this year.

I was kind of just talking in general, although I feel like it can be applied to the pre-lims based on what I heard (was at work so I didn't see them). Although, it sounded like a lot of people were off on their times, so I was wondering about the pool conditions for a bit. I felt like he went out too slowly last year and even in the trials this year. I swam distance for a year in high school, and I did that a lot and constantly kicked myself for it and it just seems to be his swimming style. He always seems to have to catch up a bit in the end and has some left when he finishes. Maybe he doesn't, but that's what it always looks like to me.

That's so silly of them not to think of that!!! :d I lucked out because I have time warner, I'm just away from my tv but have my laptop, so it's working fine for me.

The first Olympic games didn't have volleyball in them though??

I vote swimming. Mainly because I'm a swimmer and get really into it. I'd probably get into that soccer game since I lived in the UK for a year, but otherwise I probably wouldn't care too much unless it was the US playing. Plus, so many of these races in the Olympics are soo close that the atmosphere is probably amazing.

Which swim is it? Because that would make a difference to me. As a swimmer and soccer player lol, I say swimming, but you may get more of your money's worth going with soccer. It usually lasts longer also.
Do you like short exciting bursts? Or longer satisfying victories?

This is a good point. Although I would probably enjoy any of the swimming myself. If it's the 1500m races that might be a bit boring. I don't think they're usually that close of a race. Although tbh, I don't think I've watched that one in the Olympics. I just know that distance races generally =😴 in high school and during college at the club level.

Anybody else having trouble with the Live Feed? I can get it to work, but it goes to advertisement every minute. Stupid!

And what the heck happened to Phelps last night? Lochte deserved the gold for sure, but that was just pathetic. He better get his ***** in gear.

Watching some swimming and basketball this morning. Women's gymnastics is tonight (cause of course I can't get the feed to work so I can see it now). Yay!

SnS...didn't you have tickets to eventing dressage? Would love any observations.
