So, I know of some schools to give new technology loaded with drug reference apps to their P1 students. Anybody want to share what you received as an incoming P1? 🙂

Forgot about the white coat... yeh, we got that.

Mutual Drug gave us pens and little water bottles (I mean really little), Kroger gave us some tiny plastic notebooks with pens. Oh and a UNC canteen with the school's logo on it. The threading on the canteen cap was really poor and wore out after about two months of use. There was no way to keep it sealed without obtaining a new cap.

P3's are given neato backpacks from Mutual Drug. They're quite roomy with lots of pockets. P3's use them as a status symbol.

Yeah, got the white coat and name tag and that was about it. Considering how much I pay in tuition every year, I feel like I should have gotten something else. But then I guess my tuition would have been even higher.

Chances are the white coats and the name tags are already snuck into the tuition/fees somewhere. Nothing is truly free.

We get a free white coat during P2 year. The engraved mortar and pestle combo sounds nice. We also get iPod touches during P2 year, but I believe we're supposed to give them back before graduating. Not sure if anyone actually does.

At least with it being in the tuition, it counts toward financial assistance, loan packages and tax deductions.

It always angers me when I have to stand in an hour-long line to pay $3 for some piece of lab equipment or mandatory lab book when they could've jacked up my tuition by $3 and just gave it to me. It would've saved my time, their time and I would've been better off financially.

Right? I'm sure paper gets expensive for them, but you'd hope the hefty computer fee would account for that. Nickel and dime-ing us. Literally!

One of our perks is that they print all our lectures and articles that we need for us. One prof does them in color We have free printing in b/w and color. And they print all our posters for us for presentations and what not. We don't get a fancy ipod touch, though. I heard they might be giving iPads to the next class, though. Lucky ducks.

Do you guys get reimbursement for going to conferences and stuff? They don't reimburse us for ASHP but they do for APhA, our local one, and others.

I'm jealous. Printing is something I like to do as I like to be organized and have everything at my disposal without having to consult my distraction device a.k.a. computer. But alas... we'll see.

if i had to print all my powerpoint slides, 6 to a page, it would cost $400-600/semester at the library. (our school makes us pay for printing)

no way im paying that. it's what notebooks are for. i dont understand why people print all 20,000 or so powerpoint slides per semester to just let them sit somewhere, the information isnt going anywhere, it's all available online to review at our convenience.

Agree completely. Printing powerpoints is a fool's game. How does paper beat computer? Makes no sense. On the other hand, paper beating rock makes no sense either, so who knows?

I like it better because I can write right on the paper and with things like biochem stuff drawing arrows and highlighting parts of organic molecules, etc. is useful. Just my method, though, I guess.
