I'm startin to get pretty bummed. I took AAMC #8 and got a 9/10/9. At least verbal went up, don't know what the hell happened to PS/BS. Might be the fact I took the exam kinda late in the day and my brain wasn't working so well by the time it was time for BS, but I really made some dumb mistakes in PS. I felt somewhat strong coming out of it too. School starts on Monday too, so that's gonna take away much time. Oh well... hoping for a miracle within 2 weeks 😀

Nice, good job Longshanks, you look well on your way to a great score. I, on the other hand, still need more practice. Took number 4, got a 10/10/10. Hopefully it raises in the next two weeks.

Thanks, hopefully that happens on the 4th. I was in that range last time around but ended up with a 28.

Don't sweat it pheight. Better to get one of those out of the way now. Like you said, you took it late, and just see where you're at mentally if you need a day off or not. Maybe #8 hit every weak area, you'll figure it out with post-game.

Thanks man, appreciate it. I was definitely lacking mentally towards the end of it, but it still doesn't explain the PS score.. definitely gonna do a thorough postgame analysis tomorrow.

By one of those do you mean one of the harder aamc's (7-10)? I've taken 7 & 8 so far... do you recommend any others to take besides 9 & 10? I may leave those two for next weekend

Are AAMC 7-10 suppose to be the hardest? I have only taken 3,4 and 10 as of yet but thought that 6 was suppose to be the hardest and am going to save that till last. I did think the Verbal on 10 was somewhat harder but the PS and BS didn't seem to much different from the others.

I just did AAMC#5 and pulled my first score not in the 20's, and it was a 30 flat. 11PS/9VR/10BS. I'm satisfied that there is improvement occurring but not happy just yet, especially since this was one of the earlier tests

We're almost there guys! I'm down to just going over my weak points and taking AAMCs. Here's how I'm coming along (P, V, B):

AAMC 3 11, 10, 10
AAMC 4 11, 10, 11
AAMC 5 11, 12, 11
AAMC 6 11, 11, 11
AAMC 7 13, 11, 12

Hopefully I stay in the mid-30's range for AAMCs 8-10. A score similar to that on the real thing would make me extremely happy

I hope everyone's studying is going well. Just about to take AAMC #10. Sigh, I'm aiming for at least a 30 since I've been getting high 20s thus far.

Just out of curiosity, how bad is voiding the MCATs in terms of getting into med school?

No one knows if you void. Its a blank record. Personally, don't void unless you feel like absolute rubbish or if you don't finish more than one passage.

9 more days guys, hope every one is not stressed out. I took aamc 9 today. I got a 31. BUT The problem is I GOT all FREAKING 6 AAMC EXACTLY 31 , w***! :scared: No matter how I study I got 31, I guess 31 is my real number...

I will take the exam 9/3, 8 am in clark, NJ. Good Luck every one!

Is there anyway to get the AMCAS tests without paying $35, i'm guessing no. I'm retaking, got a 29 on the real thing and last week got a 30 on AMCAS #3, so i want to make sure i'm getting at least low mid 30's before i waste my time taking this test again. I suppose $35 isn't really a significant percentage of the $200k or so that medical school costs so actually everyone can ignore this post, i'm just going to buy a random test and hope i get at least 32 tomorrow. Hope everyones studying is going well

The clock is ticking...ahh! Anyway, is it worth to take AAMC Practice tests over again if you took it a few weeks ago?

Don't buy a random test, buy one of the later ones. 9,10 etc. Supposedly, these are the most representative of the current MCAT.

Oh thanks for that, I think i'll take 9 tomorrow and 10 on tuesday, that should give me an idea of what to expect and give me plenty of time to recover for friday's test

No big deal…. 7 days left ……. Third time taking it……. I'm going crazy……. Studied for 1 year, 6 months, and 21 days. Read EK 5x Kaplan 2x Princeton 1x. I can't believe I'm taking this test over because of verbal. I have 10 papers due, and I currently enrolled in 22 credits worth of classes. I'm not even studying for the sciences at this point. I figured there's no point reading EK 6x- and anyway my problem is verbal. A few things I learned about the Beast are:
  • I guess don't know English
  • The people who do well on the MCAT are the verbal people- trust me I know! For all you physical science fearing people, I got a 5 on my diagnostic and the I picked it up to 13… so there is hope for the science sections
  • I now know how it feels to hold your breath under water for the longest time (that's how I feel about this test)
  • I also discovered I have a severe case of anxiety.

Anyone else going crazy?????????????

 I'm going crazy too. Other than taking and reviewing my practice exams, I am being extremely unproductive. I have this delusion that there is nothing else that I can learn even though I'm still a little shaky on the reproductive stuff and some of the physio stuff. Basically all I do is look up random subjects on wikipedia or read through some of my old exams and think about how I should have gotten 2X on that section or none wrong on that section.

Basically next Friday can't get here soon enough.

Damn, we're gettin real close guys. How is everyone holding up?

I just took AAMC #9 and got my best score so far, a 32 (12PS-10VR-10BS). Really need to work BS. I know there's not a whole lot I can do for VR. I still need to go through the official mcat guide passages so hopefully they will help out.

Wish I didn't have school right now!

I will keep all you in my prayers, we've done the work all we can do is just take the test and pray God makes a way, which he will do. Stay encouraged 🙂

Thanks elusivechild. Hope everyone does well.

I was going to take Kaplan FL #7 and then #8 today and tomorrow? Any other last minutes ideas.

all of you*

I know someone told me to go over my weaker topics before the test by writing down some questions and putting them in a hat or box. Then answering the questions periodically, in addition to reviewing your notes. My notes are one page ( front and back) for each chapter I read. I hope that helps a bit.

Keep up the good work everyone. Less than a week, hopefully we all conquer this test, and then we have our freedom back ... at least for a day until school gets crazy.

Update on my progress:
had a bit of a set back on a practice exam, gonna do post game now but I think the problem was that I started it so late last night (like 2AM) and realized that was a bad choice, lack of focus and had to guess last passage due to time. Decided to just pause it go to bed and start again in the morning. Well, I was right, not so good on physical due to it being 2-3AM, but the rest were their usual scores. I wanted to get more practice exams in, and some more phase 3's that didn't happen but hopefully its not a big deal. I've been studying for this thing forever it seems like since this is my re-take and I just want it done with. Shame, I purchased some TBR exams but no way I can get through all of them without killing myself

AAMC 3 - 12/10/12
AAMC 4 - 11/12/11
AAMC 5 - 9/11/11 (annoyed about this, besides already mentioned above, doing a quite look through I completely bombed orgo with only 2 wrong in bio =(, need to fix that and BS would've been superb)
TBR 2 - tomorrow
AAMC 6 - Tuesday
Mon & Wed - post games, some practice problems
Thurs - mentally active, but absolutely nothing MCAT related.. just have to do an 8-10 hour experiment but maybe my PI will let me cut out early

AAMC 7-10, did last time around so not repeating.

Praying and hoping for at least a 32, since my previous 28 won't help.

You guys are doing so well! It's making me nervous, since I'm currently not where I need to be. What are your guys' game plans for the last few days before the MCAT?

Only one more AAMC left to go for me. I'll probably take it Tuesday or Wednesday and spend the last day or two relaxing or so. 🙂

Here's my progress so far:

AAMC 3 11, 10, 10 (31)
AAMC 4 11, 10, 11 (32)
AAMC 5 11, 12, 11 (34)
AAMC 6 11, 11, 11 (33)
AAMC 7 13, 11, 12 (36)
AAMC 8 12, 11, 12 (35)
AAMC 9 (still left)
AAMC 10 14, 9, 13 (36)
(lowest VR score 🙁, had no idea what happened here)

Hey,

it is nice to see that I am not the only one that is freaking out. I've been studing out of the McGraw-Hill book and a kaplan book semi-intensively. Have in tips for last min studying?

Ive been geting flat 30's on the kaplan exams on the cd with the book and
On #3 AAMC P11/V10/B11

You guys are doing so well! It's making me nervous, since I'm currently not where I need to be. What are your guys' game plans for the last few days before the MCAT?

Don't be nervous! Forget what other people are doing and focus on yourself. There's plenty of people that score better on the real thing than in practice. Then there's fools like me who score significantly lower than their practice test average my last two times around.

FWIW, my suggestion this last week would be to do hardcore post-game and look at both what you got right and wrong and why, continue a little VR, and as odd as it sounds focus on making your strengths as flawless as can be. At this point its tough to cover up weaknesses, but it takes a lot of questions to improve a weak test section, it just takes two or three more correct to get a point or two in your strongest section. The most important advice: relax, and do something to take your mind of the test a bit.

I appreciate the advice 🙂 The last time I took it, I scored around the same as my practice test average. However, my practice test average was low so it didn't really say much, hahaha. I will be taking a lot of AAMC tests and doing harcore post-game, like you recommended. The point on maximizing strengths was a good one. I'll probably take Thursday easy, but until then should be a little hectic!

What is everyone's game plan leading up to Friday?

I'm doing straight up content review today, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Saving physics for Wednesday because it is my weakest subject by far so I want it to be the freshest in my mind. Do you think this is reasonable..?

I've already exhausted all of my practice test sources. I'm kind of bummed, took the Kaplan practice test I have access to with the premier program the other day and did awful. I've been consistent ~30 on the AAMCs though so I have no idea what happened there. Oh well.

Don't let your Kaplan score throw you off course. Most people fall within their AAMC range.

I'm getting nervous now. I was fine until last night. Then it just hit me.

I'm not getting anything accomplished at work today. Actually I think I might just sneak some examkracker time in.

How is everyone else doing with the stress or lack there of?

I wish I scored around the same as my practice exams. I scored 6 points below my average and now I have to take the beast again!!!!!!!

anyone doing princeton online practice exams....diagnostics?....i was consistently getting 9 in VR and today got a 6!...i'm scared as hell....

I'm starting to get nervous. But my last few practice tests (both Kaplan and AAMC's (8 and 9)) are right in where I want to be, so that is a good sign! Good luck to everyone in the final push!

It's probably just nerves. I'm sure you'll do better this time around!

How is everyone holding up? Everyone where they need to be?

I need a relatively high MCAT score if I want to be competitive at all, and I'm not sure it's happening. I'll probably take an AAMC practice exam Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving Thursday for light content review.

Third timer here as well!! Did horribly in June (only a 29...which is not really good because my old score was around 35), so I am retaking this Friday!!

I am definitely EXHAUSTED from doing aamc cbt every other day and the error review for the past week and half. One last one tomorrow and I am just going to look through my "error" book on Wednesday. No studying on Thursday of course. SO HAPPY TO TAKE THIS TEST IN THE AFTERNOON! I think this is going to help a lot from last time when I literally was functioning on 2-3 hrs of sleep (too nervous 😛).

So far I have taken these and srsly just hope I can do above 35...

AAMC 8: 35
AAMC 7:35
AAMC 9: 37
AAMC 4: 37
AAMC 10: 34
AAMC 6: 39

Good luck everyone and remember not to give up these last few days!! One more thing you learn is one less thing that will surprise you on test date. ^_^ SUERTE!

I get around 12-13 on AAMC Verbal but get anywhere btw 7-11 on Princeton Review. I think it's a rather crappy indicator. Do the AAMC!! They are helping me a lot I think...lots of dough, though 🙁

I feel the anxiety just like everyone in here, but we have to STAY encouraged. We've done the work, now its time for us to have faith and keep it moving. I lol admit I am scared out of my mind and burnt out but I know we will be happy Oct 4th with our scores, I claim it 🙂 This morning Im going to work on some Verbal through AAMC and finish my TPR online tests. Lets get the 30+ scores ya'll 🙂 POW!

Wow, you're doing really well! Is there a way you can clone yourself and alter your fingerprints so you can take my test for me?

The good thing about taking so many CBTs close to the exam date is that when the test date rolls around, the day won't feel much different than your practice days!

its weird how everyone always claims to have fairly 35+ on their practice AAMCs, yet only the top 5% of ALL test takers fall into that range. Either the kids on student doctor are that 5% or the kids here are full of ****.

seriously guys, any need to post all your near 40 practice test scores? it makes the rest of us normal people who have been studying for 6 months hoping to get just a 30, feel like dirt. lets instead try to help each others confidence, cause i could easily make a post saying all my practice AAMC scores are 39+, but that is not beneficial to anyone here or yourself.

my two cents, 3 nights before my big day.

Don't sweat it man. The fact is these people aren't going anywhere. Some mean no ill intent, some are just so far caught up in posting their scores on online message boards to please their egos, and a good many just considerably lack in the skill of being able to empathize, and some just don't care about the fact others struggle.

Don't let them foul your mood. In the same way it's pretty bad / sad people at times post high scores to brag (on an online message board among people they will in fact never meet), those of us not in the top 5% shouldn't let these people bog our confidence.

Didn't mean to write so much, but I realized myself at times getting frustrated people complaining about getting 30's on their actual test, but the reality is it shouldn't phase me one bit. Doesn't matter. I just gotta reach my own personal goals. These personalities aren't going to disappear anytime soon, and I guarantee we'll be dealing with them throughout our medical careers. Might as well get used to it early on 😛

On the topic of the MCAT though, I seriously ****ed up my last practice test. I don't even want to admit the score. I think I may be suffering from a serious case of burn out. I've been taking it easy the last few days, and I think I will take it very easy on Thursday. I was slowly improving my scores from a 28, then pulled a 30, then pulled a 32, and then my score plummeted. I got a 25. My first TPR practice test wasn't even that low. It's not very comforting to score so low on my last practice exam... but the only explanation I can come up with is burning out. I've just decided to review lightly and walk in to the testing center well rested and with some confidence, and hope it serves me well. I'll be glad to be done with this test, that's for damn sure. If I have to take it again, so be it... but at least I don't have to worry about it for the next couple months.

Goodluck to everyone!

my two cents, 3 nights before my big day.

Sorry if some of us started that trend. I joined in, not as a pissing contest, but just since we were sharing our stories on our preparation, whether we were doing good or bad.

Yes it did got a little side-tracked, and maybe not the purpose of this thread or past 'test day' threads I've been in. I can throw you a screen cap if you really want mine.... but thats not the point. I'll say it first hand, that practice tests are easier since normally you're calmer, thats the only way to describe how I averaged low-mid 30s the last two times and ended up with a 27 and 28 respectively. Take that for what its worth. I don't hide the fact that this is my third time on this endeavor, and this is a tough test, and you need to put in the proper preparation or focus - and hopefully life events don't get in that way of that. My last two times, my personal life was choatic, I shouldn't have sat for them but I never liked the easy way out and am up for a challenge for better or worse.

I understand how you feel, in the thread of my last test date I came back with my tail between my legs after not breaking 30 and people talking of their mid 30s and one kid saying he went in not caring either way and getting a 41. It sucks, and since forums are somewhat anonymous people boast or flat out lie. My first kaplan diagnostic was a 19 (two years ago), so if anything I hope that my posts have been positive in tone and perceived as that positive tone that if you commit your time to this, and dedicate your focus and psyche towards improvement and confidence that you can achieve your goal. Some of us may had gotten excited, and for that sorry to have rubbed anything in your face. I was thinking it more of how when I was a track runner, us talking about our splits and practice times and logging them - not for comparison to each other, but as a way of tracking our own progress and then giving each other the extra push we need to do even better and not settle for where you currently are.

Best of luck to everyone on Friday, and remember: be confident, focused, but stay cool - don't get rattled, its just another test, you've done hundreds of these in your life and you're going to succeed.

Good luck to you longshanks, you've been a positive force in this thread lol. I don't think anyone would associate ego stroking with you considering your other posts, and I'm definitely hoping you reach your goal this time around. :luck:

Ok, ok, I definitely see your point. The fact of the matter is that there is a definite luck element involved. It's also my third time taking this exam too (got a 29 on the previous one) and I think it's helpful to know when your cbt practice score is inflated or not. I will be the first one to tell you that my 39 on AAMC 6 probably was an overestimation b/c I think it's too lenient on the scaling (I only got 2 more questions right than in AAMC 10 and my score improved from a 34 to a 39...just to show you how weird this scale is). I thought it might be helpful to put my scores up here so other people can contrast and see if they had the same skewing in their scoring trend. That's all. No ill intent, man. 😛

Best of luck, of course, on Friday. I am sure we'll all be fine and get a score we're happy with.

I really wasn't judging anyone, I don't have a problem with people posting scores, whatever they might be... and for those of you scoring extremely high, that's a job well done. One just has to not let others get to them. I was just giving my view point to PersiannDO about what he said is all. Awesome scores btw.. 🙂

Thanks Longshanks and phEight for your posts...It's what I really needed to hear. I've done all four Examkrackers 1001 series three times through, taken around 47 practice tests in the last month and I only break 30 sometimes. Pretty frustrated...and the test is only two days away. 🙁

HA-OOH! HA-OOH! HA-OOH!
Just keep in mind everyone, 30 isn't the "magic number" to get into med school.
Whatever happens, don't let this exam get to your head. Many of us have prepared since the start of summer, sacrificing our down time from the rigors of school work. Putting in this much effort, we certainly will see some kind of fruit for the effort we put in. Even if we don't get that 33+ or the 30+ we are aiming for, there are always more options available to us.

Also, keep in mind, you have all ready done something harder in your life; the MCAT isn't the "hardest thing evar!!" according to what people say. And even if this is, you are bound to face many more hardships that are bigger than the MCAT. For me, nothing has topped running 5 km while fasting under my 19 minute goal.

There is always more than one option available. just because you didn't get a 30 doesn't mean you won't get into med school. Although it wouldn't make it easier, having a 27-29 doesn't bar you out.

And from the opinions of those who teach LSAT, MCAT, DAT, OAT, and all the other graduate school exams, they all say MCAT has to be the hardest, the mother of all graduate exams. This isn't suppose to be easy, you're not suppose to come home after the exam with an easy feeling, and you're not suppose to feel comfortable looking at your scores when it finally comes out. Have pride in yourself. Have pride that you are choosing to go into a field that is regarded as one of the most rigorous. Have pride for taking the first steps of going into a profession that seems to be dieing. Have pride for being consistent in your endeavors by not letting some small mishap choose what you want to do. Have pride that you are looking beyond the sleepless nights and the debt-ridden finances so that someone else in your neighborhood can feel easy that there is someone near them who can help if something goes wrong.

MCAT is the right of passage, but don't let it be the deciding factor. a 27 on your MCAT shouldn't bar you from doing what you want to do or be in life.

Good luck to everyone! I feel pretty confident in all that I have covered. After this friday, I won't be coming back to SDN or doing anything medical school-related until after I get back my scores.

I hope you all and myself get the scores we want!

I don't let other people's scores bother me. If anything, use it as motivation. Don't let it get to your confidence!

No one can hate on you, Longshanks. You've been one of the most helpful people on this thread by boosting confidence and giving advice.

Today's the last day I take a practice MCAT! Then it's the real deal Friday afternoon. What is everyone doing afterwards?

:luck:
