So much yes. If anything, that's the only good reason to change the degree name. Its either "do", spanish "dos", Google saying "did you mean dog?", etc.

Yes. Absolutely. This thought pops up in the back of my mind every time a newbie starts a thread on the DO forums and an SDN veteran growls 'do a search.'

It also has the benefit of screening out any website too lazy to appropriately spell the term. Full disclosure: I am too lazy to appropriately spell the term. That's a lot of punctuation.

Lately I've seen people using the abbreviations m.d and d.o

If you're going to be lazy it should be DO or MD. At least that is aesthetically more appealling than "m.d"
