I am so sick and tired of this idiot posting anti pharmacy thread what he calls "promoting bright young students move away from pharmacy." I dont know about you but I have done my research before entering the field of pharmacy. i knew the positives and the negative, anyone who goes into this field not knowing ups and downs of the profession is a complete *****. however i believe bitching about how bad the pharmacy is how it as become serves no purpose in this forum nor for the future pharmacists.

What we should do is however, recognize the downside of the pharmacy and come up with the some sort of plan how we can go about fix it or improving such negatives. what do you accomplish just by bitching about it and steering away bright future pharmacists? go to h*ll. I rather have one of the brightest pharmacists out putting our all brains together, and try to progree our profession forward. I rather spend my precious time doing such rather than contantly bitch how your life sucked as a pharmacist.

I believe we need a voice. If APhA won't provide us than let us demand it. Or heck start out a new one. I know how redicuolus that may sound but it is a lot better than sitting back and bitch about it and do nothing. we need a common voice actually a unified pharmacist voice who genuinely concerns future of our profession. all these time we have done nothing and our continous current behavior will put us in the bottom of the ocean. I think this forum is created to get our creative brains together and start our inititative small but in public way. by informing other posters in other field of pharmacy, let them know what we can do first. first start out small, and it will get better and better. soon or later with our common efforts we will have a bigger voice and supports behind it. constant bitching and moaning will not gives us any step forward rather huge step backward.

I say this. if you do not have anything positive to say, or nothing positive to contribute i say shut up and get out of here. i hope majority of our forum posters feel like i do. We are in this for better good of our patients and also our profession.

There is an old saying "Even a sheet of a paper feels lighter when it is held by two people." let us work together to solve and fix our problems. promote our profession to others, educate the uneducated that's why we are called professionals. we do just that.

Why does everyone hate APhA so much? They don't sit on their thumbs with their nice building on the national mall. Their voice is noted where it really counts, capital hill. They continuously lobby for us to make sure bill passed in congress are pharmacy friendly, as do the other organizations like ASHP and NCPA. It's common that they all work together to ensure passage of pharmacy friendly legislation.

The problem is the need for a unified voice for pharmacy.
APHA is supposedly the umbrella organization, but they seem to be more of the vioce for the community pharmacist. ASHP seems to represent the voice of the clinical pharmacist, AMCP that of managed care, etc. etc. Within APHA there are different contingencies, i.e. the west coast, the south, the east, etc.

Pharmacy is moving so fast, these organizations are having a hard time catching up. Meanwhile with no solid unity we are left vulnerable to all these pock shots from the media, and bullied around by the rest of the medical profession.

They seem like the voice for the community pharmacist because they best represent them by default. If you notice, whenever there is an issue with hospital pharmacy APhA usually co-authors letters of importance with ASHP to show solidarity. The same goes for NCPA. None of the big 3 organizations really "war" with each other. If anything, most of them don't care for the idiots from PFLI but respect the organization for what it is.

Actually, APhA is historically known as being notoriously inept at promoting "pharmacy" interests. NARD (now NCPA) and ASHP were really the protectionist organizations of pharmacy.

Most of the specialist organizations were formed from walking out of APhA meetings. AAPS (American Association of Phamaceutical Scientists) was literally formed when they read a parting screw-you statement at APhA and dramatically stood up and walked out of the 1986 APhA conference in Minneapolis.

How can an organization comprised of 50% students be representative of a profession?

I think there are a few reason why there is a problem within this profession. There is still an internal conflict between all the pharmacists including students. Just look at the issue of the Entry Level PharmD. If we look at this board alone, some one will bring up we should still have a B.S degree. Come on we as a profession cant even agree on a standarized degree. So how exactly can APhA or any of there colleagues (ASHP, NCPA etc.) provide a "unified" voice for the profession. My personal opinion, work with fellow collegues that actually care. In the long run you will feel better.
