Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has any feedback on Fiser's book, "The Comprehensive ABSITE review."

In the past he has authored "The ABSITE Review" and "The Senior ABSITE review"; is his new book just the sum of these two parts? Has anyone found more relevent/useful/updated information in the comprehensive review versus the other books?

More importantly, is it worth dropping $90 if you already own The ABSITE Review?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if it's any good, but I have to admit that I impulsively bought it off of amazon soon after I saw your post.....

My Fiser is several years outdated, and the Comprehensive review was only $20-30 more than the boring old normal review, so I made the obvious choice.

I'll let you guys know how it is in about 5 months when I break it out.....

My brand new Comprehensive ABSITE review arrived from Amazon today....I've now skimmed it, and it appears to be a hybrid of the regular review plus the senior review.

It is also significantly more in depth in each of the categories. In my older version of the ABSITE review, you can go through the basic science (Cell biology to nutrition) in 33 pages. In the comprehensive book, it encompasses 88 pages.

Overall length of the book is 444 pages, with each page similar in font size to the original Fiser ABSITE review. Obviously, this isn't something you can cram in quite as easily near the end of January, and may take a little time to get through.

I must say that even though I've only skimmed the book, I am very excited about it. I honestly don't see a reason for a resident taking the senior exam to use any other Fiser reference.

Is the content of the senior exam all that different? I know the senior-specific Fiser was worthless, but I'm debating if it's worth it to upgrade from the one I bought last year.

Yes.

The junior exam is 60% basic science, 40% clinical.

The senior exam is 20% basic science, 80% clinical.

It's a completely different exam, although some of the questions do overlap.

Here's some more info.

So, I did SIGNIFICANTLY worse on the senior level than the junior level exam. I am in the lab now so have a lot of time to study.

What do you guys recommend? What did you do differently for the SENIOR level test? I did the same stuff as for junior and that obviously didn't work.

I guess this comprehensive ABSITE review book is one option. Anything else?

Thanks!!!

Reading and preparing for your cases and conferences is an excellent way to retain information than just trying to read a text cover to cover. If you can then supplement this with reading from the Fiser absite review, you will do well on the absite. Good luck.

I re-opened my new comprehensive ABSITE review today, and it just really seems long. I tried to envision myself getting through 450 pages of dense material in the last week of January, and I just don't see it happening.

I think this review book is just too much info, and I retract my recommendation. I'm still a firm believer in the original Fiser ABSITE review book, and I think the bigger/newer one will get very little action from me come late January.

how are you guys studying for the senior exam? this is my first year taking it, and all those above me have said its the "big boy test" and that just skimming through fiser and doing the usual minimal things that i do for the absite and get by will not work. needless to say, im a little worried about studying for it. i have sesap 13 and fiser. most of our seniors use the MSU book. is there anything better than that for the senior test? in a program where your score is very important, you can see how id be concerned about this. theres been at least one example of a resident in my program who scored decently on the junior exam and below 20th percentile on the senior test. and disciplinary action was taken against them. trouble is, i dont even know where to find some sample questions for this test. the best i can find is the board review questions on access surgery, which are alright but im not sure how reflective of the true absite they are.
