I dont know if theres a thread for this but every one keeps saying we should chill the day b4 the test. As a self Dx Obse. Compulsive....this is going to be impossible! but is it a wise Idea?

I don't know about you but I plan on chilling out and gathering my strength the day before...nothing worse than taking the test feeling burnt out and fatigued. Plus my gf has been in China for the past two weeks while I've been studying, and I'd rather spend a little time with her than with my dear frend first aid

I pretty much agree... i'm going to review in the afternoon, but i'm calling it quits at around 5/6... one thing i've found when doing QBank is that I do much, much better when i'm well-rested and relaxed... since being relaxed is probably not going to be possible, I would at least like to be well-rested! 😛

If I had money I would probably go buy an Xbox360 😀 But since I'm poor and need that money for a palm for rotations I'll probably just go to the movies.

I'd go with the Wii when it comes out...but I'll be 2 weeks into my surgery rotation 😡 Guess that will have to wait. But on a somewhat good note, I got my Palm T/X today...nice distraction 3 days before Step 1 😱

Relax the day before your exam.

Well, be realistic, you can't relax, but you can distract yourself. Hike, bike, volunteer. I didn't, but I should have.

Why? Three reasons. (1) I learned nothing the day before the exam. My (very respectable) scores are below the apparent average for this forum, but I'd be very surprised if you learned anything the last day either. (2) It took me weeks to review (and in many cases, learn) the material tested on the boards, but it would have only taken me one day to remind myself that I am not defined by the boards. Neither are you. But that's easy to forget, take a day to remind yourself what matters. (3) The test itself is less a test of facts (though there are many) and more a test of medical intellect. I struggled to finish reading in the time alloted, and many of the questions required connecting disparate facts. Only sleep (and sugar, and caffiene, and nicotine, and probably amphetamines) demonstrably increase your IQ. Cortisol, on the other hand, interfears with recall.

I strongly believe I would have done better had I studied a day less.

My exams on Monday and since thursday I have kinda laid back and began reviewing First Aid all over and did questions here and there. I have actually noticed that in this relaxed mode I am able to read the questions more effectively . I dont have to read it 2x or 3x to get the story and I get most of them 3 step or 4 step questions right because I find myself able to concentrate more. I probably wont take the whole day off but I will definitley give it a rest Sunday Afternoon. 👍

bump!

while i wasn't trying to learn anything new, i was definitely flipping through the rapid review section of first aid and the path grid book the day before. i stopped at 10, took a bath, went to bed. it worked for me (i hope!). knowing yourself and how you retain things is key. for me, i can only remember minutia if i look at it repetitively, and for a last time hours before an exam. do what's worked for you in the past.

I studied FA (HY section) for the first half of the day, watched some Smallville DVD's, and then watched the Mavs kill the Heat, and go up 2-0 in the series.

I also only studied for the 1st half of the day. I did memorization stuff and did a quick read through of HY cell & molecular...I walked 9 holes in the afternoon and then watched whatever was on TV.

Yeah you're just lucky that Detroit wasnt itself when it was playing Miami for the Eastern Conf finals, or else you would've been watching the Pistons stomp on Dirk and Stackhouse.

😀
