So, I've owned a marketing consultancy for many years.

To move forward with the pre-med coursework I would like to spend all my time on pre-reqs and volunteering in medical and community service. And teaching yoga.

BUT... I worry that if I don't take on clients that I will look like a loser - e.g. an unemployed person who is only applying to medical school because they don't have anything going on.

So that makes me think I should continue to take on a few new clients.

BUT... I worry that if I take on new clients I'll be too busy to do all the volunteer work I want to do

What would you do? My gut tells me to take a couple of small projects and turn away every thing else

That seems like a fine plan. But you wont look like a loser if you aren't doing marketing - the only way they know what you've been up to is from the information that you volunteer in your AMCAS application. If you tell them that you owned and operated a marketing co and then put that aside to pursue medicine, they clearly know that you "had something going on."

If you can afford to not work while you do the prereqs, I personally would do that. Working a little on the side is fine, but you will really need to focus on getting A's, studying for the MCAT etc. That all is a full time job, so if you want to work full-and-a-half time, go for it. That's what I'm doing, and it sucks honestly.

Whatever you decide to do, prioritize your classes so that you are in good shape come application time. Good luck!
