Hey, all! Happy 4th of July, btw! 😎

Ok, I was kind of curious about how AADSAS and dental schools look at our GPAS. They are not standard, for example, if someone went to a tough IVY-League school and received B-s or something, that may have been equivalent to getting an A- from a different public college (example may be extreme 😱 , but you get the point, haha). Do dental schools and AADSAS take this into consideration?

I mean, it makes sense to have a standard test exam like DAT, but then doesn't the GPA factor not weigh too much into the application process? I'm sort of curious now, because we always talk about GPAs (granted that we all have equivalent dental experiences, good LORs, etc).

What are your thoughts on this? Does anyone know how this will work? I don't want to think that I've paid 42 grand a year for tuition to get an "average" GPA and someone who paid less getting "above average" get into my desired dental school (assuming we both have other equivalent factors and DAT scores; and money is not the issue now, but sometimes it's not fair 😀 ). Is the GPA factor taken into consideration? 😕

I would've thought Ivy League schools have the greatest grades inflation from what I read online. I asked a similar question before and I was told it helps if you went to a top 50 school because apparently it shows that you got those grades competing against smart kids (apparently....). Lastly.. $42 000 a year?! I hope that's not for undergrad, because that's just morbidly obese!!

it doesn't matter. i know many predentals who went to community colleges and got accepted to their top choice. undergrad instituiton matters only if you want to apply to harvard.

Marquette explicitly says they look at Quality of College/University attended on their website. Might be important if you're borderline. Also, Issa, did your friends go to c.c. in addition to undergraduate work?

yea, approx 42 grand for a year (small grants here and there, but still too much) undergraduate (room/board may be included, not sure, since my parents took care of everything). But thanks for commenting- I was just curious to see if it was really worth it going through these past 4 years to get into my top dental school, when I could've saved up and done better GPA-wise, haha. Too late for that I guess.
