I can't find it anywhere but I swear I saw on NBOME website that you had to be a 4th year first. What about the USMLE? Can you take it a week after step 1 or is there a waiting period? a milestone?

link?

Thanks

EDIT: also, I never utilized the NBME practice tests for step 1 but I'd like to for step 2, where do I go? What am I looking for on their website? Is it the CBT section? Do I have to go to a prometrix facility or can I take it at home?

Thanks

I think its school policy.

Our school will allow us to take step 2 when we take a certain amount of rotation weeks and a certain amount of core rotation weeks, like 36 weeks?

Myself, I won't be having my obgyn rotation done before I take either Step 2 exam.

Theoretically, you can apply for that sucker right after you receive your Step 1 score sheet confirming you passed it already. The question is: will you be prepared for it without having taken your third yr. clerkships?

you dont need to pass step 1 to take step 2 ck or cs.

lots of imgs take step 2 before they ever sit for step 1.

Really?! Interesting. I know of lots of IMGs that are frustated that they can't take Step 2 because they haven't passed Step 1 yet.

I believe its because they are uninformed or it is because of their school. But those who hold MDs already are eligible to take step 1 or step 2 without having taking any exam yet. I believe step 3 is the only exam where you must have taken 1 and 2 to be able to sit for the exam.

If you browse some of the usmle forums on the web like prep4usmle you will read many experiences where test takes took step 2 and then 3 weeks later took step 1 or took them 4 months apart.

This might not apply to US grads, but for those of us who go through the ecfmg.

"...meet the medical science examination requirement for ECFMG Certification, you must pass both Step 1 and Step 2 CK. You can take Step 1 or Step 2 CK in either order, provided you meet the eligibility requirements for these exams."
