The Investment Thread (stocks, bonds, real estate, retirement, just not gold)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Going strong with SCHD mainly
Decided to go with some small cap AVUV (other option CALF, expense ratio a bit higher, I’ll pass)
Other hype picks I’m seeing are going into XLI with rate cuts and various REIT ETFs

What do you all think about future mortgage rates in the next 6, 12, 18 months? Interesting they they went from 5.99 to ~6.5 recently for 30 yr fixed.

Really liking this dividend fund combo, SCHD + JEPQ

It's a shame how dead the pharmacy forum has become. Would be much better if mods hadn't banned the active folks.

Only millennials and boomers use forums. The boomers retired and the mods banned all the millennials, so we are the last of the Mohicans. IDK what Gen Z uses but they're not here.

Yeah it’s sad. I try to get the youngins talking about finance, investing/future investing, thinking about retirement accounts. It’s pretty bleak with the lack of interest (finance, politics, etc.)…pop culture, tik tok garbage though…><. I give them another 10 years to mature, start changing their minds. Technology is a double edged sword…more information readily available but often results in delaying maturity (distractions)

these funds tend to give high dividends at the expense of high capital destruction.

Always ok to diversify a bit into different index funds.
I originally bought jepq in margin when it was paying 10% yield and margin rates were like 4%. So I was making 6% vs 2% on my cash … even after taxes still a profit. My 200 shares are green by an about 25% as well in that time.

Now margin rates are like 6% and I’m getting 4.5% on my cash so less worth it.

Ditching all my growth ETFs (VUG, AVUV) in favor of simplification, just VT (underrated and seldom mentioned for some reason?). Mainly just staying as conservative as possible with the election

anyone else switching things up for the election?

I don’t have VT but most of my investments are in big tech. These people control our government.

I don't like VT. Just use sp500. Is there an ETF for the top, profitable RUS 2000? Most of that index are stinkers.

A lot of people don't like to invest in international because it has lagged US stocks for the past 20 years or so. Or they consider the S&P to be international companies anyway. So they stick with VTI or VOO.

I am worried about the possibility of Japanification, decline of the USD as a reserve currency, stagflation, etc. so I diversify a bit more into VXUS.

I have hit my goal of $100k in capital gains for 2024 with my options strategy.

All gains are used to reduce my student loans which I hope to be able to retire by the end of 2025.

You must’ve started with 1 million plus or your options strategy is just gambling. If not you would be able to make 10 million per year at a hedge fund and retire by 30

Nope.

I only sell options on google apple nvidia etc. companies that if assigned I patiently sell calls above my basis until I get assigned away. Rinse and repeat.

My ROI the last 3 years is 45.95%
vs
S&P 26.35%
Nasdaq 25.99%
Nasdaq 100 31.67%
DOW 19.59%

Wow it’s so easy we should all do it! It sounds so simple and easy. Would it help if I buy crypto on the side as well?
lol right. People trading in an exclusive bull market are in for a rude awaking. Did you see the close today??? Completely rigged. -.8% in an index within 5 minutes. You have a fairer chance with Vegas Sportsbooks

Sigh…

E*trade only allows the past 3 years of performance charting. I’ve been at this strategy for the past 4 years and skeptics aside it has worked for me with ever increasing capital gains annually. Whether you believe me or not ehhh.

I am on track to pay off my six figure student loans in residency, and as an attending I will be working for my salary and not working to pay off the interest and the principal.

StudentDoctor deserves its Reddit reputation with the likes of you skeptics.

Congratulations for moving ever closer to financial freedom

Not here to diminish your successes based on current market and play what if/devil’s advocate.

😂 @owlegrad…just say no to being a crypto bro

And only reporting wins/gains…
It’s like YouTube getting rid of the thumbs down display. How dare people acknowledge faults, negativity, set backs, etc.? Possibly one of the most effective ways for self growth is to deal with negative feedback

I sell options. Not sure why non of these people believe you.

I don’t live the stress of it tbh but I sell puts a week.

it's been challenging to find non-index investments, with a downturn expected in a year or two (for two years now.) I Have been putting powder money in JAAA and JBBB. interesting CLOs, not much history. What do people think of this high earnest investment vehicles?

Got lucky and timed my rollover to buy into the dip…will my HSA be so lucky in like 4 weeks?
Yeah, I transitioned jobs. Getting back to steady investing…10% retirement (lower for myself) & throwing more into brokerage account this year (probably work out to another 10%) & rebuilding emergency fund. Nothing crazy when there’s chaos about

*whew, the gettin is good today, buy up. Sticking with dividend based brokerage account, SCHD + JEPI + JEPQ (more about fun, battling my brother in investing with his nonsensically over complicated dividend portfolio…simplicity vs cluster F over analysis) if anyone is interested. Curious about what the current hype train is about these days just for some LOLs?
