I'm a biology Major at Emory University and have taken an extensive array of courses concerning the topic:
Bio 141/142
Biochem 1/2
Microbiology
Cell Biology
Parasitology
Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy
Human Physiology
Evolutionary Biology
Organismal Biology

I was wondering if the Kaplan Bio 2009-2010 book was any good. My friend just finished with it and is offering to give it to me for free. Should I spend money and buy a different book??

Is it ok to stick with the Kaplan??

Even if you get the Kaplan book, you'll still need a source of Bio practice passages. EK 1001 Bio is decent, but too easy. BR Bio has lots of good practice passages that are supposed to be close to the real deal, however, it's content review isn't as good as EK or TPRH. Between all the available resources, you should pick up BR Bio for the passages.

Biology: 1. EK Bio + EK 1001 Bio, non-detail oriented 1. BR/TPR Hyperlearning, detail oriented 3. Kaplan

Physics
: 1. BR 2. Nova 3. TPR Hyperlearning 4. Kaplan

Verbal: 1. EK Verbal + EK 101 Verbal 2. TPR Hyperlearning 3. BR 4. Kaplan (Avoid if possible)

Organic Chemistry: 1. BR, by far 2. TPR Hyperlearning 3. EK/Kaplan

General Chemistry: 1. BR, by far 2. TPR Hyperlearning 3. EK/Kaplan

Extra Practice Material: 1. TPR Hyperlearning Verbal Workbook + TPR Hyperlearing Science Workbook, good source of practice passages 2. EK 1001 series, helps nail down basics

SN2ed may disagree, but I seriously think that the NEW kaplan biology book (the one that is in color), is right on par, if not slightly better than EK Bio. I really like it, that's my opinion though.

For me it isn't so much the content review as it is the practice passages. Content review is helpful, but practice passages are the key to MCAT success.

Really??? During the content review??

How would I go about this?
I ask cause I assume the kaplan book is not organized like the EK 1001...
I feel like I'd come across problems with contents that I haven't been able to go over...

dude, don't be afraid to USE practice materials. We all sometimes feel like we're "wasting" materials by doing practice problems, but this isn't the right approach. Whenever you do problems, you're helping yourself. Just do the 1001 as you study.

Emory is an amazing school so you can figure it out. It is as simple as when you go over a topic then just go over it in EK 1001 Bio. Coordinate it so they go together. So read a section and then look up the corresponding section in EK.
