I wanted to share with every one here exactly what type of school you are dealing with.

I have been a long time PA working as a solo provider in a rural ER. I am nearly 40 years old, not in school for many years. I wanted to pursue an education as a physician and applied to lecom.

My application was late, but still recieved an acceptance letter last week!

Unfortunetly, I have signed professional contracts that MUST be honored. More, My mother suffers from alzhieners disease and could not abandon my father as the sole caregiver with such little notice.

I contacted the school with my story and requested a deferral to next year.

The addmissions coordinator and Dean contacted my within 3 days.

"Dozens of apllicants reqest such a deferrment each year. All are denied and must re-apply." EXCEPT FOR YOU!!

They understood the type of commitment and values that make a competent physician and granted this deferment for me. My gratitude is immeasurable.

These are the type of people you are dealing with. There are many goods and bads about evey "addministration and systems" but at the core is someone that actually reads the papers and makes the desicion based on intellect.

I thanked them like crazy! I will miss you this year, but will see you all next.

mad props to LECOM!!!

Yo...as much as I like to pick fun about LECOM sometimes (all in fun) I have to give it up to LECOM. That rocks that you were able to do that and I'm sorry about the issues you have to deal with. Great story and now you know your set to go for next year. I like happiness.

Nice to hear some positive news come out of Erie! Good luck Bandit, I'm sure you'll be an awesome doc!

I was ready for a LECOM bashing thread (as there is usually someone on SDN bashing LECOM), but I'm happy to see it's something positive!

Yay for LECOM! Good luck in your pursuit of your dream!

Same here, I read the subject and thought, "UH oh here it comes!" I am soooo HAPPY though that you posted this and they granted you deferrment! We'll miss you this year but will see you next! Good luck with your family, and God Bless You for taking care of your mom and all!!!! You made my day!
👍

Thanx guys (and gals) I cant express how disappointed I am to not be joining you this year. Well, after all you people went thru to get in---maybe you do know!

It certainly is better getting thru this next YEAR knowing this info.

PS: you might still see me there around orientation -- I want to buy some books. My group will consider them CME and will pay for them.

Look for the short, VERY Italian biker with the half dissapointed half confused look on his face.

Bandit,

that is great news about next year, congrats and good luck with everything else. you should still come to our get together if you want! 🙂

Congratulations on your acceptance Bandit!

I have a all new respect for LECOM now. I thought that they were a great school before, but now I really admire them. The fact that you want to honor your contract and help with your mother is very admirable. Hope that all goes well my friend. Good luck in your future endeavors.

jen, when and where is this get together?

Bandit: Congrats on your acceptance! You're not the only 'non-traditional' student entering the halls of LECOM. Nice to hear about the admin's understanding and flexibility from another pre-student and fellow rider! Don't know that a firm date for the LECOM class ride has yet been established, but since many of us may be working up until the day orientation starts (like me), I'd suggest a weekend before the week of orientation. Perhaps the weekend before (7/23-25/04) the orientation would be best, since most students that have bikes would be in town? Any thoughts LECOM'ers? Also, what kind of bike do you have? All the best to you!

I have a pretty bad lowrider. I bought this one in 2002 and the first thing I did was take a hack saw to it. New arlen ness wide glide front end with torp head lamp, lowered 2 more inches fat pipe drag bars, chrome every where including fron fender, custom exhaust so loud it sets off car alarms, with a dark green paint.

bad bike. Say the word and I am there.

That's great for you Bandit.........BUT LECOM STILL SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

TRUST ME, YOU WILL SEE FOR YOURSELF JUST HOW BAD IT SUCKS WHEN YOU START NEXT YEAR.

Actually, since you have another year before you start.....you should apply somewhere else. LECOM is probably just using this as an opportunity to boost their image.

Anyway, congrats again, and good luck!

P.S.
LECOM IS HORRIBLE

 Someone failed first year or didn't get in.

i would be very interested in your reasons

Mr ANDURIL,

I want you to state some specific reasons of why you think LECOM sucks.....until you do so...YOU HAVE NO CREDIBILITY!! SO SHUT THE HELL UP

Well, he/she/it can't tell us now - he/she/it is banned :meanie:

I do think its good that LECOM bended for yah a bit bandit, but if I were you, I'd keep that letter in a safe place because you never know what kind of trick LECOM may pull next year when it is time for you to go. I am not saying this because its LECOM, I would say this for any school. Whatever agreement you have, make sure its in writing, sign, official sealed, delivered, etc etc. You don't want screwed when its your chance to go next year.

bustbones, way ahead of you! When I spoke with the dean, I slipped in the fact that I will forward my metriculation fee at this time for application to next years tuition. It is non-refundable, but only 1500 bucks ( I know--that is a ton of money for you younger types!!)

If I change my mind about school, it only sets me back 1500. but I have the choice now for another year
