Well, Late Nighters! What's up?

I am up debating whether to buy a Verizon iPhone. I realized I can't show up for class in July with my current 4.5 year old cell phone. I would look so unhip.

Also, realized I made a mistake on my federal taxes. :meanie: I already mailed it out so I was just researching how to file an amended return. It gets me $30 more back so definitely worth it. That is after all, one month of data service for that iPhone. 🙄

Don't do it!
You can't do data and talk at the same time.
Seems like the iPhone is still pretty much crap on the Verizon network at the moment...

Two acceptance deadlines coming up, and can't pick (and is now cutting into my sleep.) Flip a coin? (How very scientific.)

You thank Yoda (couldn't resist).

But, seriously, it is amazing (especially after my experience applying 5 years ago) but I am really stuck. One school is great (but doesn't offer many prospects for my wife to find a job in her field). The other school is very good, but in a very expensive part of the country (wife will find job, but may spend all our remaining $ on COL). I know $ should not be my first thought (and it isn't) - but both schools are nearly equal academically in my mind, so it becomes Maslow's hierarchy...

congrats, that's a nice decision to be faced with.

Wow I would love a smart phone. I totally want to get one before med school starts, and justify it as "oh I will need to look stuff up in clinic on it" but I know it would just be an excuse, and that I don't really need it. I personally am more of a fan of the Android-type phones, but iPhones look sweet too. I don't know if I can really justify the data usage fee though haha. If you can afford it though, you should totally get it. E-mail, personal GPS, SDN on the go. Boss.

I filed a tax return amendment for 2009, actually. It was pretty easy. It didn't even change my taxes, I just thought I should do it for completeness's sake. But if you get $30, that's a good deal!

Yeah, I heard this. Maybe I am just old but do you really need to talk and surf the web/download email at the same time? Plus, if you have a wi fi connection you are able to talk and use data at the same time. I am thinking most of the time at school I will be on a Wi fi network, anyway. Big hospitals have free wi fi, too, these days.

Was looking at the Thunderbolt and the LTE 4G network info and it looks like the Thunderbolt would be $250 and then the data plans are $50 or $80/ month and are capped (not unlimited data). That is just too much $$$.

I think the thing is to get locked into the $30 a month unlimited data plan. AT and T no longer offers that and supposedly Verizon has already said they are only offering this for a limited time.

Congrats on the acceptances! Here is a possible tie breaker:

Which one is closer to family?

This is silly question but do they have apps for Android yet that med students might use? Like a PDR?

I honestly don't know too much about this, but I know for sure that Epocrates works on Android-operated smartphones. I have a crappy phone too, so I don't have too much experience with anything else!

Can you drive it to Texas?

maybe if we get on that show on food network

it'd be nice to start one in austin though... i heard that's a nice little city.

Why yes, yes it is. :horns: I'm headed down there next weekend to get wasted like I still live there.

Getting ready to hit the sack so I can get up early and go to church tomorrow before I study all day.

I just have to go to church. Year off, I love you.

You earned it. As much as spending a good chunk of the weekend studying sucks, it could be worse, and besides it goes with the trade so to speak.

Year off, I love you.

I hate my year off. There must be something wrong with me. It may have something to do with the fact that I work at Starbucks though 😛

It is what you make it, and I'm making mine as awesome as it can be. If I had the funds, I would be roadtrippin' or backpackin', but I don't.

Yeah, I have seen a lot of posts where people say you should take a trip and enjoy your last free and easy year before you start med school. I don't have the money for that... I am just working until school starts. 🙁

I am making mine as awesome as I can too, but I don't know, being impoverished, living with the parents in sleepy suburb for the first time in 5 years, being apart from 1000+ miles away from any of my friends/gf.. ugh. I am not very good at making my life awesome I guess haha. I am definitely looking forward to being back in school, but trying to make the best of my situation right now. I'm busting my butt to see if I can save up enough money to travel right before August to Japan (which I spent all of college studying but never visited). With mileage saved up, and a little help from some friends' couches, the trip may actually be affordable. Tanoshimi ni ****eimasu!

I'm currently procrastinating packing for a 1-month trip to India (leaving Weds) and filing my FAFSA... what sounds more fun than packing and real work? Oh I know, ice cream, the internet, and online TV...

She might need the money to pay rent/bills for those 2 months.

Um, yeah. I am older and I live by myself in my own house. If I don't have a paycheck coming in that is a real problem so I will be working right up until I start school in July and can live off of the student loan.

If any of you are still living with parents and they are willing to let you be lazy these last few months make sure you don't take it for granted. 😉

I just got done doing some reading or my evolution and ecology exam that I have on Tuesday. Now I am going to hit the sack for a few hours and get up and study for a few more hours before my o-chem class.

Oh, I'm milking them for all they've got.

The hours spanning the serving of breakfast at McDonalds. No more, no less.

does anyone else frequently find themselves going into daydreams where they're in a med school interview explaining "why medicine" or "explain your journey" and you're just talking about why medicine with such passion in your brain - until you snap out of it and get back to work 😛

I had the toughest exam I've had in a very long time yesterday morning; did multiple all-nighters with little naps at the hospital leading up to it. Went out for drinks yesterday evening in a spur of the moment decision afterward - my first non-eat/sleep/work activity in about a month 😱

twas a great decision. saw my friends, came home early and had my first full night of sleep in a month, and i'm awake early at 5am instead of falling asleep around now. feels great 🙂 this cool story brought to you by bro incorporated 😎

playing the witcher, highly recommended if you like RPGs!

That is a good game. I still vote Dragon Age as the best recent RPG though.

you posted in the Late Thread when the sun's out.
Maybe (s)he's from the UK? Either that or I'm reading too much into their user name.

It is still light at 7pm on the east coast?

Not at this time of year. (granted, I'm from the North where we get more swings in daylight hours).
