hi all;

the only thread I found with advice for guys' interview attire is 5 years old.

I have an interview next week and two options: a charcoal suit (with pinstripes) or a blazer/sport coat with dress pants. Would the blazer be too informal? It's a really nice one 🙂

So what's happening w.r.t. interview attire now - still mostly suits all-the-way for guys or what's been spotted recently?

Oh, also, any advice on bringing a briefcase?

Much thanks!

Lose the blazer/pants and briefcase. The pinstripes w/ a pastel color makes you stand out. Def keep the suit though.

I've seen suits and sport coats at my interviews, and I don't remember thinking the blazer was too informal whatsoever. Also haven't seen anyone carrying a briefcase, so I wouldn't worry about that. Have seen some guys with small leather binders though...

I agree with victoria. Stick with the suit and bring a nice notepad. Def. not a briefcase.

I had a charcoal suit with pinstripes, and the interviewer complimented me on my suit! Oh and I had a leather portfolio. Dress at least business casual (as some of my interviewers were) or more professional to show you are serious about being a student and medical professional.

Yeah?! What colour/style tie did you wear?

Anybody else have tie suggestions?

Thanks for all the great advice!!

Go with a blue tie. Someone at one of my interviews had a tie in school colors; it looked pretty funny.

Also, don't tie your tie like this:

I see a lot of men at my interviews with ties like this. This just screams that you don't know how to dress formally.

i would go with a powder blue tux with a matching top hat (ie: dumb and dumber) and don't forget the cane!

At one of my interviews a guy wore: navy coat, tan pants, light pink shirt, red tie, black socks, and brown shoes.
I'm a guy and even I know that is absolutely awful. It's like he forgot his suit and just put some things together.
