OK, so who else (besides me and Ames980) is in the purgatory between college and med school? Anyone working? Volunteering? Sitting on their ass watching Road Rules XTreme?

Just graduated this past May. Working as a teacher part-time and volunteering at a walk-in clinic. Besides that, I have a lot of time to just linger and....wait!

holler-- I can recite all 10 years of "I Love the 80's". I've been working but its rained for about a week and rain = no work.

Working

Quite bored and wishing the waiting game was over, yet its hardly begun.

I graduated in 2002 and have been working in research ever since. Doing 30+ secondaries (esp. the mind-bending essays like Duke) on top of irregular work schedule 40 hours a week has been tough, let alone trying to volunteer, hang out w/ friends, etc.

i graduated the same year, but took post bac for one year, mcat, sat on my ass for 5 months looking for work, and started research at the beginning of this year...

its the absolute worst time of my life. research gives little income (from a medical school at least), and an uncertain future creates much stress.

🙁 🙁 🙁

I am right up there with all you guys. Graduated in spring, finished up work/studying for the mcat. took the mcat on the 14th. Sitting around the house trying to find work (my wife and i just moved out of state--to Georgia). Luckily she has found work, but i just started looking. Trying not to get too stressed out. good luck to all.

I am also not in school right now. I am looking for a good paying job. If I don;t get a well-paying job by September 3, I hope that Target is hiring. Or it will be a long fall, winter and spring.

It's kind of fun not having to worrying about studying and classes. At least for now.

I'm very much in this position, and it's wonderful. I don't watch Road Rules Xtreme, but I do watch lots of other junk.

I'm right there with you guys. I've got a full-time lab tech position at the University from which I graduated, and have been volunteering at an ER and taking graduate classes (employees of the University get free tuition up to 8 credits/semester) for the past year. I don't find myself watching all that much more TV, but my X-Box sure is getting a workout in the meantime!!!

i second that emotion!! this inbetween time just sucks. you know - my entire life i have known exactly what i was doing, where i was going, what the next step was. and now i sit here, watch the food network and all the crap on vh1, and just *cross my fingers* this whole process works out in my favor.

blah.

I've been out of grad school for three years, making a living as a musician, having a great time, only applied to 14 schools, so the process isn't killing me, though attending the interviews is going to be tough.

I just graduated in May as well. Been back east for the past 4 years and its OH SO GOOD to be back in southern california. Definitely NOT bored and enjoying my time b4 medical school. Kinda getting nervous with my lack of a job though because interviews start mid sept... and I have to say something more "I watch tv, work out, and drink =)" LoL.

Moving up to Los Angeles with some buds from Orange County and hoping to do research and something cool (maybe work in a body shop?). Anyway, good luck to you all.

😛

Graduated in 2001, went back in 2002 for pre-med, was done a year ago in September. So yeah, working full time at a medical clinic, volunteering at a community medical clinic, and trying to woo a certain woman (it's working!! yay! I just need to get into my local med school...). Almost done with my secondary apps, just two more to go! w00t!! I'll be done by monday, I swear.

Graduated 2001, still in the same town researching (ugh, I'm getting really tired of this darn place), taking classes, volunteering, etc. I just submitted a bunch of secondaries too...only 2 more to go...oh, okay, and I've watched some RR extreme. 😀

I graduated in 2001 and am working. I take a few classes at the local college too. Watch Food Network a lot. 👍

I'm with ya. Graduated this past May. I couldn't find work for the longest time until recently (I'm going to be joining the faculty at my old college.. yippie!!).... so at least I'll have some money to pay for the applications. 😀 All in all, just sitting around, writing a book, and filling out applications.

I'm in a similar position - isn't it just awesome having time off, even though we'll have some awkward explaining to do during our interviews? I love it, and almost don't want to think about having to go back to med school. Luckily that's still a year off. I like learning, but hate being in school. I'm glad I have this year to learn about the things I want to learn about, without having to worry about grades and such.

Some of you are doing really cool things... Writing a book, being a musician, etc... I'm impressed. 👍

I graduated in 1999.. and have been working full time since 1998. I recently found out I'm missing a couple of ochem and physics labs, so I'll have to take the whole thing (lab and lecture) throughout the next school year to meet requirements for enrollment if I get accepted anywhere.

That... along with full time work (that includes travel), raising the remaining 2 of my 3 kids, keeping up with my rental properties, etc...

So, being that limbo seems to imply a state of inactivity... I don't think of myself as exactly in limbo... just juggling and transitioning... 😳
