I know that I for one love to hear about people who worked hard to overcome odds. I believe everyone should earn their spot in medical school, I know that I for one intend to earn mine. Some of us though may have made a few mistakes and had to work harder than others to prove ourselves.

I would love to hear some success stories from some current applicants who are making it happen. Even something in recent years is still inspiring...

SDN is full of people who didn't give up on their dream because of a low GPA or a bad MCAT score or both, but worked hard on every aspect of their application to show that they could do it...

I think it could be inspiring to get a bunch of these upbuilding cases in one place, don't let me down SDN

This would fit better in What Are My Chances?

🙄 Says the guy who joined a month ago..

I think its a great topic and its in the perfect forum. I'm sure some med students are writing up their life stories right now..

You'd probably most want to hear from medical students who have been considered underdogs when they were applying.

Unfortunately, most of them - myself included - do not want to talk about those things anymore. There are many reasons for this. Mine is that I simply don't want to share personal stories online.

Still, there may be some who would be willing to share.

Best of luck to you on your application cycle.

Have you ever seen one of those website banner advertisements that say something like "2.8 GPA and 24 MCAT and still a MD! Find out how!"... yeah that was totally me.

I graduated undergrad with a 2.6 GPA and a 25 MCAT. After working in a hospital and doing a one-year postbacc, I have been a part of 7 research studies, i'm being published at least twice, I brought my MCAT score to a 33, and got a 3.91 in the post-bacc taking all 300 level biology classes. I'm doing an SMP this year that only lets 10 out of 150 people take courses with the med school students - I was one of those students. I'll be applying next June with two years of good grades (and a ridiculous amount of clinical experience) under my belt, and I hope to be writing my own inspirational post by next september. cheers

Looking forward to reading that post...
