Still holding down this thread. I've decided schools just don't want to take a chance on me until they see my fall grades. I have too much community college coursework and I'm currently taking a huge science load at a great university. This is the biggest heavy science load that will appear on my transcripts so I think my schools are just eager to see the outcome of this semester before giving me a chance.
So for now, I highly doubt any chance of a December acceptance (or interview), but I'm still trying to be optimistic about my chances for this cycle.
Lately I've been completely ignoring the application process and it is GREAT. I've been able to focus on school and get **** done and haven't stressed about dental school one bit. You guys should try it 🙂

Just thought I'd chime in here since misery loves company. E-submitted to 10 schools (mostly WICHE) on 8/10, no interviews, no rejections, only 3 schools show up under School Decisions on AADSAS, wish I knew what was going on. I'd be happy with a rejection right now just to hear SOMETHING!!

How do you find motivation for your classes lately? I just feel like there is no application in dentistry for what I am learning right now...
I am taking biochem with lab, advanced organic, evolution, 400 level spanish and macroecon...I feel like I should be motivated for my science classes, but lately I have only found my spanish and macro to be applicable to anything in dentistry.
I guess I just wish that we didn't need to jump through so many hoops before we could learn the stuff we really care about

Strange that so many people with high DAT scores are not hearing anything.

Meh, I decided to major in biology because I honestly just find it really interesting so I've never had much issue with motivation in those classes. I'm extra motivated right now though because of the lack of response to any schools I applied to. One school actually told me they will evaluate my application only when they see my fall grades, so this is pretty much the most important semester of my college career.

That's interesting that a DS will only evaluate after fall grades...that seems really late to be reviewing an application. Sounds like you are well motivated though so just let that translate into success in the classroom.
I need to find some motivation as I have a below average GPA, but am hoping to continue an upward trend, with a 3.87 over the past one and a half years. Do you think DS weigh more recent GPAs more strongly?

You have a 3.6 sGPA and ridiculous DAT scores. I do not see how you have no interviews. Forgive me if you have already elaborated on this. I, like you, have tried to stay away from this site so I may have missed the reason as to why you believe you have not heard back from schools.

your DAT is clutch 2pac, but that 3.3 masters might be holding you back.
Your DAT's great but all of your gpas are an anchor to your application, especially your sgpa.
Getting your sgpa past a 3.0 will get you past many school's stats-based screens.

So, basically I have been staring at my stats and trying to make them better somehow to console myself, but at this point I feel like there's no way in really showing that my GPA isn't hurting me.
Are there any schools that actually use GPA w/o +/- for their stats? In my case, these GPAs give me slightly better numbers: BCP 3.26 to 3.34, sGPA 3.21 to 3.29, and oGPA 3.44 to 3.51.
Also, without +/-, I have a 4.0 for the last 4 semesters...is there any significance to these GPAs without +/-?

I applied to 10 schools and the only one I've heard back from is UB saying that my application is "continuing review." I've started to mentally accept that I will be retaking the DAT and applying first batch for the next year. DAT: 21/21/21 ogpa:3.65, sgpa 3.43
With your stats, I'd think you'd get some post-December love. You were 13th batch, right? A lot of schools probably haven't even looked at your app. Take SDN and its pre-December/December 3rd fanaticism with a grain of salt.

I feel your pain - I am going through a similar situation.
When was your application officially complete (including LOR's, etc.) and also what is your section score breakdown of the DAT?
Also, what was the subject line of the UB e-mail? Did they just write to tell you that your application is complete and under review? Or did you get a separate e-mail from them saying you were put under "continuing review"?

wow kid why would u retake your dat? a 21 is pretty sick. and defly matches well with your sci gpa. dont retake imo
Your DAT is great, I wouldn't retake. I think you'll get post-dec interviews, but if not make sure that the other parts of your app are strong and apply early next cycle.

The subject of the continuing review email is "UB School of Dental Medicine Application Status". For me it came about a month after the initial email saying my app was complete and they were going to look at it. The continuing review email says that they aren't ready to take action on your app and that they'll let you know if they make any decisions later on.
I think the only reason you got that at all is because even 9th batchers filled up through the end of January at the school, they interview until the beginning of Feb only so probably only two more interview dates that filled up with 10th or 11th batches..they didn't even look at you until they filled up. People will drop spots after dec 3rd and you will probably get an interview then. Don't even think about retaking your DAT

I was in your guy's position last year. I received a decent DAT score.. but my bio subscore was below average, and that is what kept me from getting in/having interviews last year. I didn't realize how important the individual scores for bio, RC and chem were. Keep your heads up! And, if you don't get in this year, learn from it, make the changes you need to make, and apply again. If this is what you really want, you'll achieve it 🙂

To the schools I have been rejected from, they're telling me most of their acceptances had over 150 hours!? I am not sure if that is just shadowing hours. 100+ hours seems like alot to me.

i have a 21DAT and 3.45oGPA and have around 650 hours, but that is overkill IMO.

I'm in a similar situation in regards to applying late. Is there hope? Yes! Would I count on it for sure? No.
I was 16th batch and had 3 interviews so far that resulted in 3 waitlists. I have 1 more coming up in feb.....
But I received almost all these invites pre-decbember, with the exception of one that I received during the first week of December.
However I heard some schools are still inviting/expected to invite (not sure how accurate this is): BU, Columbia, Penn, MWU-IL, UCSF, USC. Also from what people are saying, MOSDOH is still in the very early stages.
