anyone just dying to get an invitation from somewhere they are currently on a waiting list? I have 3 I would love to hear from. I'm contemplating canceling a couple of January interviews right now in the hopes it would karmically grant me interviews from those dream places.

I am still on the waiting list for 2 programs in which I remain interested - I have either withdrawn or received an interview invitation from all other waitlists at this point. One in particular contacted me "last-minute-style" in early December with a couple of dates that didn't work out because I already had interviews scheduled for those dates, and, since this program is across the country, a visit out there requires some advanced planning to get plane tickets and accomodations squared away. I'm planning to be out there later this month to look at nearby programs, and the PC and I have emailed back and forth about letting me know immediately if a spot opens up during the week that I'll already be on the West Coast. It happens to be the last week that they interview and I'm hopeful that people will withdraw by that point. And, if not, then it's my own fault for not taking one of the earlier dates at the cost of re-arranging my schedule. This whole interview game is all about priorities.

If you are going to be in the area anyway, I think it's worth it to shoot an email or call up the PC and let them know that you're still very interested in thier program, and that you'll be in town during X week and would love to come for an interview. The worst that could happen is that they'll say "no," but at least then you'll have an answer one way or another, and not be in limbo anymore.
