Figured I'd start this one out. I'll be registering for the MCAT first thing tomorrow. Who else is taking it on this date? How do you all plan on studying over the school year?

For those scoring over 30 and high 30, how do you approach checking your work? I finish bio with 25 min to spare and on aamc 8 for instance didn't even check that I misread the graphs and that cost me 2 points.

Once when I did check, I changed answers to incorrect ones

What are your strategie

I check marked and then go back and go through each question. Usually for the sciences I have time to check every question, but for verbal I check as many as I can and sometimes no time at all.

Friday Fun fact:
If a bridge was built to go around the entire world and then all at once its supports were removed - would the bridge float?

which axis? not that it matters lol. i don't do well with theoretical questions. but I agree with Ned it depends on material I'm sure. Most bridges would sink I presume..

Wow!! I may sound dumb saying this but, I just finished AAMC 11 and I thought it was the most challenging out of all. The I scored 10/9/10 on the respective sections but the biology was waaaayyyy harder than all the other ones. I wouldnt say so much harder than required deep thought and analyzing the data more thoroughly...

Any input or comments on how you felt about the AAMC 11?? Would be greatly appreciated!

Taking it tomorrow I am sure, or Wednesday, not sure which yet. Will let you know then! What range do you usually score? Haven't seen your posts.

Just finished AAMC 11, I thought it was hard!! :scared: 👎

I was pressed for time on every section and had to mark a lot of Q's. Thankfully my score is right on the money. Not my best, but I'll take it 🙂

AAMC 11

14/14/14 = 42

Congrats!! that's a really even score. Damn. I'm so jealous haha.

Anywayyyyy I'm back, after hell week at school. Haven't done MCAT stuff in a week it's so terrible and spent the day more or less sleeping. Just AAMC questions this week and nothing else, probably doing AAMC 10 or 11 tomorrow morning and then R exams untimed for the rest of the week while studying for midterms and writing lab reports. Almost over guys!

Parents called and said I shouldn't take another practice test because if I do badly it will just hurt my confidence, what do you guys think? Obviously I think everyone here will keep practicing and taking practice tests haha

Happy St. Patty's day. Unbelievably loud outside my apartment right now. I resent drunk happy people, but only because I can't be one of them. :luck:

Also this is a belated comment but I just figured out how to rate the thread and give this five stars 😀 😀

Nice! That says something that a 42 isn't your best. You are definitely ready for Saturday.

Yeah, that AAMC 11 got me down a little bit, but nothing I can do now except touch up on last minute things...

Anybody testing here in texas???

just did a couple EK bio chapter exams, got a 12 and a 14! Then I tried to go over the nitrogen compounds section in tbr orgo and went:

am i the only who is just relaxing it and watching tv the whole day after I finished AAMC 11?? I hit 30 for third time so nothing to relax about but i'm SOOO exhausted post-AAMC.

I never do anything after AAMC exams.....saturdays were break days haha

I'm so excited! My score finally went up from my first AAMC! 😍

I've gotten 33, 29, 32, 32, 31, and now 35 on AAMC 9. Hopefully I'm headed for an upward trend.

AAMC 10 - 12 PS - 8 VR - 10 BS = 31

The good: I took this under terrible conditions. I was hungover and just straight disinterested. I was rocking verbal until I hit a certain point where my brain said "lol i'm not letting you read and understand another word of this"...which is actually fine with me. During test day (I perform better in the AM), that won't happen. I'm certain of that. Also, the curves were rough. I only missed 5 in PS and got a 12.

Word of advice. I scored the same when I took AAMC 11, and tried to rationalize it the EXACT same way you just did here.

...I got the same scores on my actual exam.

Don't bail yourself out with excuses.
-If you were still willing to take the test, the hangover must not have been that bad.
-Whatever disinterest you had on aamc 11 is just as likely to show up on test day.
-No curve should be thought of as too harsh if its an actual AAMC test. Thats simply how it is, and likely how it'll be on test day.

Be hard on yourself and come up with a reasonable resolution to all of your issues. Just, please, dont be like me and try to shrug it off.

Just finished a mcat practice passages marathon (26 mixed passages). Gonna do this everyday this week (Spring Break). 😴

This may be a little blunt, but it is very candid advice. Why would taking the exam under terrible conditions fall under the "good" category? The real deal is in a week, why be any less than 100% focused and serious at this point?

Good luck next week though :luck: Don't drink the night before the 23rd  (Or until the MCAT is over in my own humble opinion)

Stay on target 🙂 Keep hitting those books. 26 passages in a day is incredible, I don't know how you will be able to keep up that pace!!

Nice! So far since my orgo kick, I've done all the TPR passages and discretes, all of the TBR carbohydrates passages, and the Kaplan Topical test for "Biological Molecules". Mmmmm....I love me some pancakes. BRB going to go drink from this fire hydrant

PRACTICE TEST!!! you will review as You take tests. is your exam in march also?

3rd night with no sleep...anyone else experiencing insomnia? the last time I slept was Wednesday I think and pretty sure I fell asleep at like 4 am and woke up at 8 am for a physics exam.

Thinking about postponing AAMC 10 but it's like...Hmm i'm up already. Banking on not taking this test again, guess I'll take it and see! Reporting back soon...

Is this princeton?

what do you guys think is good for practice passages? would you go with princeton or kaplan?

Do the princeton passages. Kaplan is good, dont get me wrong. If you have known weakspot topics then do the kaplan for those. Or if you want to do a sectional test (PS/BS). Kaplan has their qbank too, to target weakspots.

who's awake, not hung over, and getting psyched for aamc 9??

this guy!

Getting the jitters? I'm going to spend this week sleeping/waking early and daily exercise. Hoping that does it for me. Of course I have yet to start with that... going back to sleep 😴

Just a few suggestions:

One of my professors swears by melatonin. It can be picked up at any drug store and doesn't have any of the crazy side effects of prescription drugs like Ambien.

Obviously I wouldn't try it for the first time Friday night before test day incase it makes you groggy in the morning, but it might be worth a shot to test out now.

Personally, whenever my sleeping patterns get out of whack, I do what NED said earlier and just wake up really early one day. I then let caffeine allow me to be productive during that day and then I crash at night when the caffeine wears off. Repeat for a few days and I naturally go to sleep and wake up early.

EDIT: I reread your post and see the last paragraph probably doesn't apply to you. Maybe try some exercise?

Good luck.

Not my best but I'll take it! I'd be super satisfied with that score.

This is my last practice before the real deal. Never did manage to hit a 15 on a section... I identified a small timing issue with my verbal, should be a little more cognizant of time left. scrambled at the end to finish. Might attribute that to knocking down my screen resolution to 1024x768 to simulate the crappy prometric computers, but it's worth the practice.

Beer now, postgame tomorrow.

Yeah it's definitely performance-driven anxiety...I had a week of midterms in which I got NO sleep (damn you daylight savings) but even on my "chill days" i spend most of the night being awake and only falling asleep after sunrise. It's terrible. The week before I slept so soundly when I had no school work to do. I'll probably pick up yoga this week.

Thanks Carboxylase! I took 30 mg of melatonin last night and still couldn't sleep :/
I have been taking melatonin since freshman year with breaks in the summer because I've always had trouble sleeping. The problem is usually exacerbated by stress, which I am imagining is the problem now too. I might go in and get some prescription sleeping pills so at least I can sleep somewhat this week and deal with sleep debt later on.
I feel like I have so many problems sleeping and waking up early won't really help because I'm constantly sleep deprived? Hoping that I can sleep a bit better tonight.

Anyway, AAMC 10 - 34
PS - 12
VR - 10
BS - 12

Not surprised at decreased performance due to sleep deprivation. Not taking the score to heart because I really felt awful the entire test. PS and BS are about 1-2 points below average I feel like and VR might be right on the money though I feel like 10 is a pretty normal range for me. Passages weren't bad though.

Plan for the rest of the day: eat, nap, tutor a high school kid, hang out with boyfriend, eat, and relax and hopefully sleep well tonight.

Summation: BAH.

Relaxing for the rest of the week? Reviewing?

thanks. I'm going to go over some of the stuff I missed, looks like it has to do with free radicals, which I've never been strong at, and maybe some developmental stuff, which EK didn't seem to cover in detail. I might attempt some verbal practice just to keep that way of thinking fresh, possibly from an old R exam.

Friday I'm just going to relax. Not sure what do to. Anyone got any ideas?

Same here, I'm just planning on cooking a nice dinner without much studying. It'll be important to be properly fueled for the exam.

No mine is in April registered for march 23 but changed because of school so I would have more time which was a good idea...but jump straight into practice tests??? Is this what everyone else did? I'm a little nervous...actually extremely nervous..

.tryna pull out scores like the captain and NED and entadus and all of y'all!!

when did i become such a lightweight?

watching war movies and making my way through a growler. thank god for my phone's auto correct for spelling!

anyone else testing today? if so good luck and i hope to see some awesome scores! studying? take a break!

AAMC #9 14/11/12 !!!!!

I did take this test over 6 months ago but I didn't review which I got I think a 29-30. Verbal I think is inflated since one of its passage was stolen in a TBR CBT. Regardless I ran like Forrest Gump around my house after I saw the results lol.

edit: tried to multiquote but I'm a newb and couldn't figure it out. Congrats to all the highscorers!!

The hyper learning handbook right?
Yes. But if you are looking for weakspots a kaplan practice test will find them.
This has some TPR workbook stuff too (like the outline):

I feel honored to be in that list but I only had one decent score. I'm just a pretender until i can consistently do it like these other guys 🙂

Hey, I needed some advice from any one of you all. I'm scheduled for 4/26 but I just took my 4th CBT and scored a 12C. I've been studying since December using the EK Home Study Schedule. I usually take 3 hours for content review then take about an hour to do problems and go over answers. How do you think I could increase my score? Should I reschedule for May?

12C 😕

Yes, if you get a 12 you should postpone for awhile, and at the very least start content review over - maybe even bust out the textbooks prior to starting mcat prep again.
