Anyone else here taking the MCAT in April? I really really only want to face this beast once, but I figure it will still give me some time to retake the exam in the summer just in case. :scared:

Haha life is awesome! I still can't believe how well things turned out as I came out of the test praying for a 30 (and willing to accept a 29!)

Princeton Review Averages:
V=7
B=10
P=9

AAMC Averages:
V=7
B=11
P=11

ACTUAL:
V=11 (CRAZY!!!!!!!!! My highest ever was a 9 which i got once)
B=12
P=12

Total=35Q!!

Good luck everyone and I hope things go just as amazing for you!!!

Good god man what a jump! What would you contribute to such a high increase versus your practice to the real thing? Did you feel better about the material when you were taking the real thing, or did it seem just as hard and you wanted to cry after it was over? Needless to say, congratulations!

Did anyone take their MCAT on very little sleep? I'm a 5/1/2010 MCAT taker and I was woken up by a good luck text the night before and had a very hard time falling back asleep. Just wondering if anyone had similar problems and went on to have success (or lack of success🙁) on the real thing.

Hey there, i have no idea really. I mean, i saved the easier AAMC tests towards the end (the lower test numbers such as AAMC 3-6) and used them as confidence builders. When taking these tests, my scores skyrocketed (except verbal). So really, I felt really good going into the test. However, during the test, things went okay (average) until bio which I honestly thought I failed because I barely finished in time when I normally finished with 20 min left.

But overall, I really agree with what one of my MCAT instructors said: this test is all about confidence. If you are confident in yourself and your abilities, you will do well on the test. I tried my best to embrace this strategy and it really paid off. Good luck to everyone else and hopefully all goes well!

I did. I could barely sleep and felt like all I wanted to do was go back to bed. I wasn't even sure I could take it. Anyway, I did well and don't stress.

The adrenaline will carry you through in those situations. Obviously, sleep is better, but don't stress.

When I walked out I felt like I had failed. I ended up with a 35.

sleeping well tonight. hope others do as well.

there's a lot of good info on these message boards. thanks everyone.

40Q!

Stoked!

Took Berkeley Review course in Berkeley...well worth the money!

congrats dude! and the rest of you guys with good scores!!

i got the same score as barcoderider but a P instead of a Q. I'm surprised i didn't get lower than that. I normally didn't do the practice writing, and basically didn't finish my first essay. I also didn't really put in a specific scenario for either of the essays.

Here's my breakdown:

Verbal: 13
Physical Sciences: 14
Biological Sciences: 13

Verbal was definitely the upper end of my normal averages. A 14 was about my average for physical sciences, and biological was around my average towards upper end.

I did the Kaplan online course (not the one where you watch the lectures). I basically just went through the books and took notes on every part I felt was important. The thing is, I memorized VERY little for the biology section. The same for physical sciences. I had just taken E&M the past semester and had a great professor, so i was confident with that, and i know mechanics really well. I didn't really prep for verbal. I did the practice tests in the kaplan book, and they weren't very similar to the aamc ones. sometimes id idn't like their answer after reading their explanation.

if you walk out of hte test thinking you did poorly, you probably didn't. I knew I was capable of a good score with an average of 38 on the aamcs, but i didn't feel so hot about the real thing. I normally fly through the questions and double check them. When i'm able to read something over again, i catch silly mistakes, and I am often able to figure out ones that i thought were hard the first time around.

For a lot of the sections, i spent so much time on each question making sure i didn't make a dumb mistake, i did'nt get my second over. I'd manage to check the difficult ones, but really, what gets you could be the silly mistakes.

with that said, i only took the kaplan course because i got a scholarship for one. Had i not, i probably would've taken the advice on these forums and done the BR or something.
one good hint about all the sections is that you should take a close look at the multiple choice questions. A lot of it is just being quick on the uptake. For example, I had a question on mine that dealt with neuro. I didn't konw the answer outright; i don't think anybody would know it besides neuroscience majors. But the choices included 2 parts of the brain that were part of a bigger 3rd part. All three and another part were the choices. That meant it really could n't be the 2 smaller parts since hte 3rd would encompass them. Then the third part dealt with sex, sleep, and eating, so i knew it was the other one even though i didn't know it was actually responsible for it.

for everybody worried with the verbal. i really don't have good advice. I'd read the other pages on this forum. I was just hoping for the best. I'm a very fast reader, and honestly, if you hit questions where you're stumped and manage to find a reason t ochoose one answer over another, you're probably fine.

Add one more person to the "WTF I got a 6 on Verbal" list. I averaged a 9.5 on all the AAMC verbal (3-10) and that number is distorted because of one outlier. Wow.... ......

Like others said though, this will be the motivation I'll use to drive me through the summer. When are most people retaking? July?

Haha, I know exactly which question you're talking about...

And I agree, verbal is just...something else. All you can do is practice a lot and read the economist or something

AAMC averages:

BS 10

Writing Q

Pleasantly surprised at my PS score since I'm pretty sure I guessed on some of the questions. I always thought BS was gonna be easy (I'm a molecular bio major) so I didn't focus too much on that while I was studying, and I walked out of this test thinking the bio section was easier than the physics section. You just never know with this test...onto the next hurdle, applications!

That damn caves passage!!

haha i completely forgot about that passage!!!! I loved that passage! No idea why though because it personally it sounded like there were underwater rivers, rivers on the tops of caves, caves within caves, and rivers making caves in air bubbles. Now that you mention it, I also really liked the magician passage (perhaps its because I am a magician so I didnt really read the passage haha)

"Medical schools need to discern whether or not MCAT scores from calendar year 2010 should be expected in support of your application.

Click yes to include upcoming or recently taken MCAT exam dates"

If we sat on 4/17 and do not plan to retake, we go with a NO for this question, right? I just want to be sure since they phrased the question in a strange way.

i want to know the answer to this question also...

Just wanted to give my experience in case it'll be helpful information to someone taking the test in the future. I worked 40hrs per week while studying for about 3 months. I took all the AAMC practice tests and averaged 32 with VR 10-11, BS 10-12, and PS 10-11. Immediately after taking the test I thought I would get a 29-31. But after some time passed I thought I would get between 30 and 33 since I believed the AAMC practice tests are pretty consistent predictors. Ended up with a 34- PS10 VR11 BS13.

Just got back home and to a computer...

My averages were around 28; I was taking 13 units, working in a lab 12 hrs/ wk and working in a clinic about 16hrs/wk

Studied the summer before while working but grandfather died the week before my test last year so I voided that one

Studied only three weeks this time: didnt take time off

expected
probably 10 vr, 11 ps, 11 bio

11 vr 9 ps 12 bio q writing for a 32q

Vr was always my best section even tho I'm a bio major but its so unpredictable

The way the question is stated, I would think the answer is "yes," since you have recently taken the MCAT and it was in 2010. However, the schools might also think that they are expecting to receive a score in the future. I'd say that it's safer to say "No" to this question, since the schools will have your recent 2010 score on file (but only if the score is released by the time you submit your primary).

Anybody get an absurd VR score?

I was so confident about that section and thought, if nothing else I'll get ~8.

Scores:
PS - 12
VR - 6!!!!
BS - 10
W - R
-----
28R

I didn't think people who tried and felt confident in a section could even get a 6. I remember taking 2 AAMC practice VR sections the night before and knocking them out of the park. I'm really considering regrading.

Hey guys,

Whatsup with the verbal. I have never scored so low all my 16 practice tests! VR 6, when I typically get 11s!

It seems like most people that typically do poor on verbal did well and those that do well--did worse.

Who called AAMC to talk about this? And how does the regrading work if it is computerized? Does that mean a key could have had an error? This is killing me!

I'd like to know the answer to this as well.

Me, too. I mean, I didn't get that low... I got an 8, but I've never gotten an 8 on VR before. Is anyone requesting a regrade? How does it work? Does it even matter for CBTs?

I am a new poster to the site but have been following it for a while now. I thought I did so horribly but I ended up with a 31M. I hate the writing score, but I knew that was coming since I didn't finish one of the essays. You think that'll hurt me a lot? My breakdown was:

PS - 12
VR - 9
BS - 10

I took the MCAT in 09/2009 and got a 22O (7-6-9) so I jumped up 9 points. I'm so happy!

I would request a regrade but I've never heard of someone's numerical score getting changed... but I suppose it COULD happen as I have also never seen so many confident 10+ verbal testers score so low.

I usually average 11-12 and somehow ended up with a 7??

If someone does request a regrade please post to let us know how it turned out.

I am beginning to start to study for the MCAT, but have no books. 🙁 Anybody here selling their MCAT study books (any is fine) or giving them away 🙂 contact me PLEASE!!! and let me know. Thanks!

So my score didn't end up where I thought it would. I got a 27Q (B:8, P:9, V:10) but my AAMC average was a 31O (range=28-33). I haven't gotten an 8 in any section since January. Maybe I got burned out by the end of the test or something...I have no idea what happened...I think I'm still going to submit my app on June 1 (just to get the verification out of the way). I honestly feel like that Bio score is a fluke so I may retake in July if I can motivate myself to study again...stupid standardized tests. lol

Good luck everyone and i hope things go just as amazing for you!!!
i could only hope. My average is ps 7 verbal 9 bio 10,
i could only pray for the sames results as you.

Tomorrow is my big day 5/25!!!!

Just wanted to revisit this thread since it's been so long. Even though I didn't do so well on this MCAT, I came back strong on the 7/16 with a 32! 🙂

I wish everyone luck in this app. cycle! :xf:
